A Really Good Value in Earphones
The Altec-Lansing UHP 326 Backbeat is my first experience with up-scale aftermarket earphones and my first impression with this particular product is very positive. The stock earphones supplied with my Sony MP-3 player suddenly and inexplicably gave up and I decided to give the Lansings a try after a short bit of internet shopping. Compared to the Sony phones that I had, these are much better in every way. The sound is much better. Both the bass and high frequencies are improved and the listening experience is enhanced. The noise reduction feature is something that I really hadn’t considered since the original phones did not have this in any way. I sometimes use my player in what could be called a noisy environment and these phones somewhat succeed in turning noise into beautiful music. Several earpieces are included to help ensure a good fit to your particular ear. Recommended. Shop this item thoroughly. I found a wide range of prices for this. With some being as much as 50% off others.
These headphones are garbage
I purchased these headphones to use while working out. I was fooled into believing they would last longer than previous headphones I had used by the nylon cording. The first pair went out within 2 months. I returned these and got a new pair. Three months later the second pair went out. I cannot believe that Altec gets off passing these trash headphones as high quality. Honestly, the sound quality is mediocre at best. There is no bass at all. The price may look great, but this is NOT a good buy.
not durable
The earphones were comfortable, but did not last long! My Ipod slipped out of my pocket when I bent over, and the resulting tug must have stressed the wires, because one ear piece became silent unless held in a specific position. My earphones undergo wear predominantly from catching the wires on knobs or from the Ipod falling out of a pocket, but my Shure earphones lasted over four years, my Skullcandy earphones over a year, and these Altec Lansings one week.
Big clean sound for small price
Superb earphones that I went ahead and bought a second pair to have at office.
I use one pair for running and another for music at office.
If you wrap behind ears, then the annoying fabric noise is not even noticable.
Don’t hesitate…
Reading the many comments about noise transmittal by the cords almost kept me from ordering these ear buds. That would have been a huge mistake. These buds are awesome, delivering a rich sound and an excellent value. The noise transmittal from the cords is extremely minor and should only be considered if you are very sensitive to such noise.
BAD
I put these on and the music was FLAT! NO bass, no sounds. It was just monotone. Maybe I received a lemon but they did not work at all! Returned them for a full refund.
Extraordinary value for quality sound
Purchased these earphones when looking at much more expensive sets based on a good review from CNET. Sound is crisp and clear with outstanding range. Wires are fabric covered which creates slight noise rubbing against clothing, so if you’re moving around a lot while listening, these aren’t for you and I would get an earphone with plastic coated wires instead. I’m usually seated and reading or using the computer when listening and I don’t hear any wire noise at all. The good thing about the fabric coated wires is the slight stiffening that makes the wires more substantial and less subject to tangling when not in use. Comes with a quality carrying case. Outstanding value.
All You Need in an Earbud
For the price, the sound is phenomenal. Good base, clear mids and highs. What more do you want? Some reviews have complained about the cloth cords causing excess noise, but I haven’t found this to be a problem. It’s the nature of earbuds that they amplify any noise caused by rubbing the wires, and in my experience there’s no more noise from these cloth covered wires than from plastic wires. The added bonus is that the these cloth wires don’t get tangled up in knots. I can’t comment on the durability, but they seem pretty well made to me. Then again, they’re earbuds, so they’re going to be subjected to squishing, pulling, yanking, etc., on a regular basis. For the price, they can’t be beat. Personally, I just can’t see spending any more money on earbuds to listen to music coming out of an iPod. I know there are “audiophile quality earbuds” out there, but c’mon, “audiophile earbuds” is an oxymoron, because all you’re listening to is MP3 quality sound in the first place. Save your money, and buy some real headphones and a real stereo if you care that much about your music. But for portability and casual listening on an iPod, these do the job exceptionally well.
No long-lasting earphones
After 5 times using them when running on the treadmill, and for no reason, one stopped working. No good quality and difficult to wear when exercising. Do not stay in your ears, so you have to constantly accommodate them.
Sounds like a transistor radio
The noise reduction is great but the music quality is very poor. Compared to the original ipod ear phones these sound like an AM transistor radio.
Greatest sound quality, worst longevity
I want to start by making sure that I state clearly that the sound quality of these ear buds is the greatest I have ever heard in this price range. Absolutely fantastic. What is unfortunate about these ear buds however is that the cord creates much noise from bouncing around, hitting things, etc. The solution that I found for this problem was to loop the cord up over my ears. The biggest gripe I have with these ear buds though is that my pair only lasted 7 months before the right channel became really “tinny”, almost like there was a little piece of metal buzzing over the speaker. I would normally assume that I just got a ‘lemon’, but my friend purchased an identical pair as I did and his only lasted 4 months before the right channel completely died. It is too bad, because the sound quality really is superb.
Backbeat Titaium Ear Buds
These are spectacular, lots of ear pieces to find the right fit, stay put even when running on a treadmill. Excellent noise reduction, fit and seem to be really durable. The cords have a cloth like cover so they don’t tangle like the ear buds that come with the I Touch.
Excellent Sound Quality
i don’t listen to earphones/earbuds often but these are these best i’ve ever heard and they stay in the ear where most easily pop up. the sound of the cord rubbing together is not a problem.
My son loves them!
I bought these as a gift for my son. He is extremely happy with them. He uses them with his Zune. He says they are the best headphones he has ever had and he’s had many, many pairs. He says they sound amazing. He also really likes all the different little SnugFit ear tips as apparently he has hard to fit ears! A great buy from Amazon “Deal of the Day”.
D.Hoffmann
Good quality if your sitting still. However I have a 15 minute walk to work and like to listen to my iPhone. The cord (wire) rubs against my clothing when I walk and the rubbing sound amplifies into the ear piece. I found this unacceptable and returned the headphones. Thanks to Amazon for making the return process painless.
Sounds great but doesn’t last…
First off I’d like to start by saying that the sound was way more balanced and clear than the 4 other different earphones I’ve owned, you can’t beat the sound quality for the price (especially if you get it in the $25-$35 price range.) Even at $50 it’s a good deal for how great the sound is. The fact that it comes with a case and multiple sizes of earbuds for precision fitting makes it even more of a value. I’ve had a couple of Skullcandies and some Sony’s that were less than stellar and distorted the sound/bass at higher volumes, so these were a welcome upgrade for me.
But that’s pretty much where all the good things end. I’ve owned 2 pairs of these that both went bad within a few months. The sound started going in and out, changing in volume, and went completely out in one ear of the first pair I had. If a cat hadn’t chewed up my first pair after it went out I would’ve probably tried to exchange it, but instead I tried 2 other earphones before breaking down and buying another pair of the UHP326s. It’s now been a little over 4 months and this new pair has started giving out as well. Keep in mind that I’ve bought 6 earphones at this point so I’ve spent some money, so that means I was very careful with this pair in particular. I always stored it in it’s pouch wrapped up carefully (I’m a dj so I’ve been wrapping wires for a long time, so no stress on the cords from that.) I even positioned my iPod a specific way when listening so that nothing obstructed or forced down the cord freeing that area of stress as well. That didn’t matter, this pair didn’t even last as long as my first.
The sound of the cord rubbing is very distracting too, it obviously didn’t bother me enough to stop me from buying it again but I listen to music at very high volumes. It got very annoying during the quiet parts of everything I listened to, and it’s hard to listen to music while trying not to move. In Altec Lansing’s defense the customer service (so far) was pretty helpful and they offered to “upgrade” to the UHP606. I’m not holding my breath though, I haven’t received the headphones quite yet and the reviews on the 606 aren’t that much better either. I’ll try and remember to give a review on the 606’s when and if I get them so you can see how much “better” they are and how long my new pair lasts.
My advice is to go with something else, they might not sound as good but they’ll last longer – and there really is no way to get high quality sound and durability without spending over $100. Believe me I’ve tried.
(I was going to give this a 2, 2 & ½ stars but what good is decent sound at a value price if it doesn’t last? Plus we all know everyone only reads the highest and lowest ratings. After reading these reviews and the ones for the “higher” 606 model it seems that this defective issue isn’t a fluke, so it’s better to get the word out in these 1 star reviews.)
Significant interference from cord movement
This is the worst purchase I made on Amazon! The slightest movement of the cords rubbing against the body generate friction noise that interferes with the sound delivery. I am very disappointed with the product. I am back to my the earphones that came with the IPOD. What a waste…
Altec Lansing UHP 326 Backbeat Earphones
I just received these and I’m very impressed right from the start. The comfort is very good, among the most comfortable I’ve tried among noise-isolating earphones. The ear cushions come in 3 sizes plus a dual-flange type that can create a nice, tight seal blocking out a lot of ambient noise. The feeling is like being in your own world just listening to music!
The build quality is also very good as the cloth-woven wires are very sturdy and tangle-free. There is some “interference noise” from the wires while moving, but it’s not that bad as long as movement is kept to a minimum. Because of this, I would not recommend these for any type of walking/jogging activity. The included soft case is a nice bonus.
The sound quality is excellent for earphones in this price range. They’re good for all types of music. The sound spectrum is very balanced and natural – the treble and bass and everything in between blend in very well together with neither overpowering the other. Side note: the audio source plays an important role as I listen to an iPOD with music generally at the highest quality. Lower quality music can be detected more easily with these.
I originally compared these with Sennheiser CX300 and Ultimate Ears MetroFi 170’s which are comparable in price, and am glad I went with these. Excellent value earphones with a sound much bigger than the price tag!
6 months later…still sound great! The quality and durability are top-notch and for the money, an excellent value!
Sound is good, won’t stay in your ears
I got these headphones because you can’t go running with studio monitors on your head. Unfortunately, you can’t go running with these either. While the sound quality is fine, the texture of the earbuds themselves causes them to slip and fall out of your head, even on leisurely walks in the park. They are packed with many tips to sample, but none can seem to manage the task of staying in your ears.
I’ve tried some other earbud tips from headphones past, and it didn’t really help. These buds seem to put out the best sound with the faulty tips that come packaged with the product.
This makes me a sad sad kiddie.
great sound but poor durability
I purchased these earphones and I agree the sound quality is outstanding. But within a month one of my earplugs stopped working and I had no sound coming out. The sound was so great I considered purchasing a new pair however, it appears other users have had similar problems.
