Audio-Technica ATH ANC3BK NoiseCancel Earphone BK!

The Audio Technica ATH ANC3 QuietPoint earbuds offer superior sound and reduce distracting background noise by 85% which is why Audio Technica is a world leader in the pro audio industry. Engineered to create a comfortable listening environment in areas with high ambient noise, these in-ear headphones feature a miniature microphone in each earpiece that picks up ambient noise (such as traffic, air-handling systems, etc.). Electronics in the control box create a noise-cancelling wave that is 180° out of phase with the ambient noise. This wave acts like a noise eraser: it cancels out the annoying sounds that surround you without diminishing the audio you want to hear. The result…a peaceful enclave to enjoy the music or movies of your choice.

No volume control.
This unit has no volume control; it is either on or off. The case is convenient and there is a monitor button, as advertised, but it has no in-unit way to attenuate the sound coming through the earbuds.
Great for the money!!!
Was looking for a set of earbuds that would allow me to cut the grass and play my radio at anything but eardrum splitting volumes. ANC3BK bought for $50. Sound quality very good. Good definition and present bottom end (but not overbearing bass…may not be enough for those of you who insist upon mega bass) Am now listening at half the volume and actually understanding the program material! Cuts lawn mower noise at least 80-85%. When I take walks I can choose not to use the noise cancellation feature and be more aware of my surroundings. Case and accessories top notch. Very pleased. Good value.
Decent product
The noise-cancelling was lacking as was the comfort and returned the product. Also, the cord is awkward. Some cons: The battery compartment is heavy and the lower half of the cord is too short (it does come with an extension).
Performs as claimed.
Product performs as it claims. The compact size and features makes it an ideal travel companion.
Great headphones
The headphones are very comfortable, have great sound and noise cancellation. I mostly use them for listening to podcasts while walking to work or traveling by plane. Even without turning the noise-cancellation on, the headphones drown out ambient noise fairly well. Turn the noise-cancellation on and you really don’t hear hardly any background noise. I found that I can listen to podcasts and music on the lowest volume setting whereas I would really turn up the volume to drown out noise when I used regular ipod headphones in the past. The headphones are a bargain at this price.
Very good product, great value.
I have to say that after listening to over the head headphones 80% of the time, it is quite hard to find a comparable ear-bud sound and even harder to rate it. In all honesty I would rate these 4.25 stars, but then again, these are ear-buds and even tho we’ve come a long way in terms of portable media sound, I will have to be realistic about it. So, 5 stars it is.
SOUND QUALITY:
Good crisp highs and nice balanced lows. The mids: even tho are present, are not as clear and prominent as over the ear headphones will provide. Still, excellent for the latest technology.
The lows are very well balanced, at least for my prolonged listening. Any bass-ier and my head would start hurting after a while. well balanced, something I can really enjoy on the plane and fall asleep to.
The highs are nice and crisp, I suggest to turn on the noise canceling to make them even crisper. It is a subtle difference but it is a difference for even better quality.
NOISE CANCELING:
In comparison to over the the ear headphones these are not as advanced. They do cancel noise nicely but there are some minor drawbacks when not listening to music. They still retain ‘hissing’ noise on idle use. This is a comparison by good over the ear noise canceling headphones. Yet still while listening to music in these ear-buds all of the drawbacks of noise canceling disappear and noise canceling is great.
COMFORT:
Comfort is a very personal review. Everyone has a very different ear.
They fit in comfortably. It took me about a minute to figure out how to properly fit them in. Insert… up… and over… until properly adjusted. Once in, They will not fall out on their own, or after slight tugging.
Personal note: while resting your head on the side and putting all the weight and pressure on the ear, these headphones might not feel comforting. Light pressure is OK but anything heavy and you’ll find yourself starting to feel uncomfortable. This is again a very personal review.
The battery pack thing on the cord is very annoying, yet, very necessary. Since most over the ear headphones have it, I realize it is necessary to have a powered noise canceling source, so I don’t mind it as much since most over the ear headphones have it.
ACCESSORIES:
I really, really, appreciate the way this company accommodates the needs of a user. Everything they provide is a great and necessary accommodation. As seen in the product overview, the best accessory is the headphone case, great quality too.
OVERALL:
I have to say this product is great. The sound is fantastic for an ear-bud headphones. The price and quality is unbelievable. I would recommend it for anyone.
I also own a pair of ATHANC7 and I think that the sound and quality of these headphones is the best of the market for the price. This would be another review tho.
Audio Technica Saved my hearing
I have a 3 acre lawn. Mowing takes a few hours each week. I loaded my iTouch with my favorite tunes, put in the earbuds that came with it and started to mow. I had to crank the volume to 100% which caused audio distortion and I still couldn’t hear the music over the mower. I knew that cranking the music that loud to overcome the mower sound level wasn’t doing my hearing any good. I went back to my foam earplugs and no tunes.
I knew about noise canceling headphones but wearing headphones on a hot summer day didn’t sound appealing. When I heard about noise canceling earbuds priced in the $50 range Audio-Technica ATH ANC3BK NoiseCancel Earphone BK!, I knew I had to give it try. What an amazing difference. When I’m mowing and turn the noise canceling on, the mower sound is reduced to a soft purr. Now I use my iTouch at abot 50% volume with great sound and clairity. I’m hooked. I’ve started to use them at work to block out the sound of the ventilation system. I didn’t realize that the background noise level at work was so high. I’m glad I tried them out and highly recommend using them.
Awesome earbuds, saved my father’s hearing
These earbuds are absolutely amazing. They cancel out the majority of background noise, have good sound quality, and won’t break the bank.
I’ve been using them for several months now just about everyday. I wear them on my hour-long bus ride to and from school everyday. They cancel out almost all of the sound from the reving of the engine and the tires on the road, and they really make you realize just how loud an environment is, and what silence really sounds like.
The sound quality is pretty good on them, not spectacular, but still pretty dang good. They’re pretty good at what they do, which is sounding good in loud environments, so if you’re looking for headphones that sound amazing, go get some that are made for just that and don’t have the noise-canceling capability.
The only bad thing about these is the ease of use. They are a little heavy in your ears, and the pack with the battery in it can get in the way sometimes. I would not recommend running or exercising with them, because I think that they might fall out of your ears.
One more thing. I first got these for my dad for his birthday and he liked them so much that I got myself a pair. He works in a loud factory, and listens to music for the majority of his shift on his iPod. Before he had these he used his normal earbuds, and had to blast his music in the loud factory to be able to hear it, hurting his hearing, and it was starting to show. Now he has these and can listen to his music and even podcasts at a more normal volume. These may have just saved my father’s hearing.
Great Performance – Terrible Reliability
I was so happy with the sound and noise cancelling of these, when they quit working after about six months, I purchased a second set. Unfortunately, now the second set has started to just randomly turn on and off. In the middle of a trip to China I purchased a Phillips model for the trip home. It was terrible compared with these. I’m not sure what I am going to do now.
Best gadget I’ve ever bought
I’ll make it short: this is the best gadget (considering price vs benefit) I’ve ever bought in my life. I travel by plane a lot due to my profession, and must admmit that I’m kind of stingy, so price was a great matter, and I was doubtful when I purchased this headphones for I though they were too cheap, but the result superseded my expectations by far.
Noise Cancelling earphones
I was looking for a good pair of earphones to use inside my helmet for the motorbike. I have tried several kinds and types, even at top volume, with some earphones I couldn’t even identify the song that was playing! Now I can hear a simple voice from a lecture even on the motorbike. I am very pleased with the overall quality of this product, and hope to be able to find them again should I lose them!!!
Good value for price
Have had these for about 1.5 years.
Pros:
-price, as compared to others
-comes with lots of accessories (cord extension, adapter, 3 size ear buds)
-have improved my ability to both sleep and tune out cabin noise on airplane
-smaller than over-the-ear style headphones
-durable: I abandoned the bigger case and just shove them into my bag
-battery lasts a long time
Cons:
-probably not audiophile high-end sound quality
-thin line tangles sometimes
-earbud may loosen over time – I lost one on a airplane
-earbud replacement $5 + $5 shipping
Great earbuds
I bought these because I was interested in the active noise cancellation, and am very happy with them. They come in a small sturdy case that keeps everything in order with room for some extra batteries which was a nice surprise. I’ve used them on a plane, a bus and Amtrak, and they really make a difference by eliminating background noise. I wear them even without plugging them into any music just so I can hear myself think while travelling. Sound-wise, the midrange could be a little cleaner in my opinion, but varies according to what you’re listening to. I think for the price these are great.
ear bud review
the noise cancelling ear buds worked better than I expected. I have tryed them on a motorcycle and it reduced the engine and wind noise as much as foam ear plugs and was able to listen to music at a low volume. Highly recommend them.
Good Sound…Broke Quickly
I got these as a birthday present. They were my first pair of noise-canceling headphones…took a bit of getting used to but then I was hooked. The sound is good, not excellent, but it suited my purposes. The main gripe I have with these headphones is that they broke after only three months! I barely even used them, and before I knew it one of the earphones stopped working. I was disappointed of course, but the customer service was good. I sent in my broken headphones and the company sent me a new pair within two weeks. I will continue using them and I hope they will not break in another three months…
Great Comfort And Noise Cancellation
I found these to fit my ears fine and even without the noise cancellation they blocked most of the sound of a window A/C right next to me. With the noise cancellation turned on, I could not hear the A/C at all. They are very comfortable, more so than my old earbud headphones. The sound quality overall is crisp and clear and the bass sounds good to me with my MP3 player equalizer adjusted to put out more bass and less treble.
Excellent product for motorcycle noise cancelation
I use the unit primarily for noise cancelation while riding my motorcycle. It does an excellent job of canceling a great deal of surrounding engine, exhaust, and wind noise. Most of the time I use the unit as-is and sometimes I connect it to my iPod while riding. Excellent product.
Great ear buds for travel
Great sound and the noise reduction is great. Excellent for travel. Small and easy to carry yet they really reduce them noise. Great product.
very good except the clipper
i have been using the ANC3 (white one) for over a year now, i have used it on flights to china and on the trains while traveling in china. Once the noise canceling is turned on, the ambient humming noise dropped to a much comfortable volume. with some light music on, the humming noise disappeared completely.
currently i am using it at a work site where everyone put on their headphone before entering the room, because the noise generated by the machinery is unbearable to say the least. again i used the ANC3 with my mp3 player, crank up the volume a little and that’s it.
well, done with the good things about the ANC3, now the could-be-improved stuff:
a. the clipper is too weak, doesn’t bite the cloths or whatever you attach to firmly. i normally attached it to the pocket on my jean but it drops off few days a day.
b. the cable could be a little longer, i am 5′8″, the cable is just about right when the unit is attached to my jean, however, it is a little short if the unit is hidden from the t-shirt.
overall, the unit is an excellent in what is suppose to do, just wished i had gotten a black one, that would match to the mp3 player i am using.
Little bang for buck.
I bought it to give me ambiant noise reduction while at an Indy auto race and while cuting grass on a riding lawn mower. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but the ear buds idn’t help at all. They were great ear buts if I was just listing, but thats all. For me it was a lot of expense for very little bang.
