Beats Studio by Dr. Dre – Hi-Def Noise-Canceling Over-Ear Headphones
| Overall rating: |
|

“People aren’t hearing all the music.
Artists and producers work hard in the studio perfecting their sound. But people can’t really hear it with normal headphones. Most headphones can’t handle the bass, the detail, the dynamics. Bottom line, the music doesn’t move you.
With Beats, people are going to hear what the artists hear, and listen to the music the way they should: the way I do.” – Dr. Dre

Perfect combo of looks and quality!
I first tested these headphones at Best Buy. I fell in love with the sound and the deep bass. I also loved the fact that it was noise-cancelling. I couldn’t hear all the people milling about and chatting! Then I found out the price… Ouch!
So I went on Amazon.com and STALKED the item. I checked everyday for a used version that fit my budget and sure enough an Amazon Marketplace seller was offering it for a lil under $170. I jumped at the chance to own these and I wasn’t disappointed. I carry them around with me in my purse to use with my iPhone and laptop. I’ve used them at work and at home. When I put my Beats on I get lost in the music and sound. I hear every little nuance! They are even better than my husband’s Bose headphones so he likes to steal mine!! I would definitely recommend buying these!!
I didn’t get it
Decided to give these a try so I picked them up at my local electronics store. Have to say – I didn’t get it. Headset is very flimsy. You can tell when you are putting the batteries in that the manufacturing quality is very poor. I’m no audiophile but I was not impressed with the sound quality, particularly at $300 price point. I boxed them up to return within a few hours.
Wonderful!
Was delivered to the correct address right on time if not earlier than I thought it would in perfect condition just as described. Wonderful seller, and great price!
Really Good
This is a great headphone set and i am A AUDIOPHILLE and i can tell you that these can keep the high and low steady and is a great update to those crappy apple headphones and if youre a DJ like me youle invest the money… Trust me its real good… My only complant is the Price it could have been lower but on amazon its real cheap
amazing headphone
i have to say the main reason that i buy the beats studio by dre headphone is due to its fantastic fashion outlooking, but the moment i put it on my ear i fall in love with it, it is not just have fashionable looking
but great sound quality, besides it is really comfortable on my ears. well the only thing that i am not so satisfied with this product is that it leaking problems, people even can hear what u are listening when u totally
stuck in your music world, it may be kind of annoying in some public places, like library.
Anyway, it is amazing absolutely, i recommend it to those people who chase the fancy stuff and also care about good quality.
you will definitely love it.
i am 97% satisfied with this product.
AWESOME

Short review of a user
I have had my beats by dre for one year. I was a foreign exchange student from Norway and i stayed in the US for a year. I bought my beats because I love music and wanted a good sound quality and something that didnt look like a graveyard. First of the price: It is expensive, but back home right now they are 500 bucks. Personally, with the sound and design, it’s worth it. They will rattle your skull.
Sound: Really really clean and deep sound with a strong and deep bass. Some people say the sennheiser headphones are much better. Maybe, but a good sennheiser is much more expensive. Problem I had with the sound is, if the mp3 file is bad, the sound will REALLY be bad.
Design: Great design and always make me smile when I look at the details. Strong support so they won’t break. (Unlike many skullcandy headphones)
Epilogue:
They are worth it if you love good sound quality and appreciate eye candy. Buy them, use them and handle them with care. You will not be disapointed.
OK but…
I bought a pair kind of on a whim, a bad habit I know, and after having them less than a day, I’m ready to take them back. In the store they sound amazing. The bass is very impressive and for the price it should be. Ok so pros and cons.
Pros:
-the bass is fantastic and songs with a full band sound great if you aren’t used to headphones like these
-I couldn’t hear anything but what was playing, not my lousy singing and not the phone ringing, So I guess they have nice canceling that work. I didn’t try them while cutting grass and don’t think I will
-the sound output is, for lack of better words, very loud
Cons:
-Price, If I’m going to pay $300 for headphones they had better be something I keep for several years with no regret, these don’t qualify.
-In order to use them in any form other than as ear muffs they have to have 2 AAA batteries. I’m not going to keep them long enough to find out how long the batteries last, sorry.
-I’m not satisfied with the cord length either, I would hope for longer than 3ft
-Ok the biggest reason I’m taking them back, while listening to songs that are just a voice or guitar, I can hear a low whooshing and its pretty annoying
-I’m not thrilled with the comfort either, the ear pads are nice but the headband started to become uncomfortable after only a short time
Good Sound Quality But Bad Manufacturing Quality
After I read many reviews here, I decided to make a purchase. Before that, I had tried putting it on my head in a local Best Buy store. I was blown away by the sound. There seems to be a consensus that “Beats by Dr Dre” has excellent sound quality but poor manufacturing quality. When it was shipped to me, I noticed that the box shows it was designed in US, but made in China, which I think contribute to the good sound quality and shoddy manufacturing quality that many people have observed. I am Chinese myself. Spending 20+ years living in China, I know how Chinese cut corners when they manufacture stuff like that. If they were made in US, Europe or Japan, things would be different. I notice that the screws around the joint area of the head band of this headphone look very flimsy. They don’t seem to withstand much bending pressure. I can imagine that they will be the first part to break if you don’t use it very carefully. I decide that I just won’t try to bend it or even fold it like the manual shows, just keep it in a natural position, and be very gentle with it in my hands. If I want to carry it when I travel, I just put it in a hard shell box leaving it unfolded. It may make the headphone last longer.
5 reasons to buy it…..
Here are my pros and cons for buying these headphones.
Pros:
-The sound quality is top notch. Very crisp and clean.
-They fit very comfortable on your head and ears. Even for a long period of time.
-It comes with a travel case and a clean cloth.
-Has a mute button on the right ear cup.
-It does a really good job of canceling out background noise.
-You WILL get noticed while wearing these headphones. I’m not sure if you consider this a pro, but they look real slick.
Cons:
-Glossy finish is a magnet for fingerprints.
-Some songs sounded “harsh.” But you can fix that by adjusting your computers/program equalizer.
-Have to have AAA batteries for them to work. But that isn’t a big deal.
-I question the durability. I think if you had an accident with them, i.e. drop them, sit on them, they just wouldn’t be the same.
These headphones are legit. Stop looking at other ones and buy these. Yes they are $299, but they are well worth it.
These are GREAT headphones!
I will start by saying I am a bit of a headphone junkie. I have Grados, Sony’s, Ultrasone’s, Bose and Sennheizer’s to name a few. I sampled these headphones at the Apple store and I was impressed, but wasn’t blown away. I, however, continued to read about these cans and saw much of what you are probably seeing…good and bad reviews. I decided to give them a full home test and ponied up $232 to buy them new. I will say that out of the box there aren’t many headphones that look this good. They are lookers, no doubt, but that doesn’t mean much when it comes to performance. I primarily listen to old school rap and punk rock/modern rock. These headphones are perfect for these genres. The bass is great. Not boomy….just tight, powerful and crisp. The treble is above average, but they certainly aren’t bright, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The mids seem to be just right. I like my Grados SR60s, but they are an open ear design and can’t be played when you are near people unless you want them to hear your tunes. The Grados also seem to be too bright at times…certainly brighter than these. Overall the sound is great for what I listen too. I don’t see these being great for classical music or acoustic music, but again I am saying great. They would be good. The build quality seems good. These are also extremely comfortable. Extremely. The noise cancelling is OK. The Bose QC 15s are certainly better in this arena. That is fact, not an opinion. These headphones also play loud. They sync well with your iPods. Easily powered. I will summarize my short review by saying these are certainly worth what I paid. You do get what you pay for. You will look good and get good, solid sound with some noise cancelling properties. They stow away easily and come well packaged. I strongly suggest you give these a whirl. I doubt you will be disappointed. Remember…you need to give these about 50 hours of break-in time. You will see a discernable gain after break-in. Nice job Monster. I am impressed. Thanks!
Broken headphones
I couln’t believe this product was missing pieces and broken!!! Be careful when ordering this headphones!!! I was really exited, but when I opened this item I was really disappointed.
Amazing Headphones
I rarely write reviews, but I feel I owe it to Monster/Dr. Drine’ on this one. I travel a LOT and these are the best headphones to travel with. They sound amazing and they are probably the most durable ones out there. EXTREMELY comfortable, it’s like down pillows on your ears. With subwoofers. I work most of the time in Iraq/Afghanistan region and find myself watching movies on my computer with these and they fully immerse you into the film. It’s as if you’re in your own private THX certified theater. Just remember to always have 2 AAA’s laying around as they are powered. Which is GREAT because my ear drums are a bit worn these days, but these being powered makes them LOUD and CLEAR! The batteries last for a good while, I just always make sure to buy a new set of batteries for back-up every time I need to replace them. Which is pretty rare. On a Plane……LIFE SAVER. You put them on your head and when you turn the switch on you hear the air/con and all sounds VANISH. You can tell this was well engineered and it’s WELL worth $300 if you fly a lot or plan on getting your use out of them.
Monster Beats Studio is better than AWESOME!
I was simply amazed at the quality and comfort of this product. It is hard hitting and crisp sounding. I bought them before a 22 hour flight overseas and I can easily say that the batteries lasted and that I was more than pleased with the outcome.

This item was purchased by a client of mine. He lives “Down Under” and across the “Big Muddy”. I asked him why he purchased the Monster Cable Studio Beats by Dr Dre, my item #: 120602588442 , as apposed to the far superior sound quality of my Sony MDR-SA5000’s, #: 110582797418 , and he told me that Dr Dre “looks cool”. When he received his cans, he wrote to me on eBay and informed me that his new cans were scratched right out of the new unopened box, but he said he loves the sound quality and the fit to the ears and he was glad that he had purchased them from me. I sell items from Amazon.com from time to time, because my suppliers may run out of stock, or in this case will not ship outside of the USA. I have them sent to me and I ship them out. So I buy here from time to time and do the “nasty job” of making a living from other American seller’s fears of the rest of our Global Neighbors. Thanks Amazon and MaxFish for supplying my customer in a professional and timely manner! snoeshoe4003 on eBay and worldwidesmartphones on eBay, a Top Rated Poweseller for years and certified by PayPal…Ciao 4 Now and don’t forget, buy a SONY, not Baloney!
Definitely Studio Quality
Honestly, I didn’t expect it was going to be all that. I have Bose speakers at my house and they sound very good. However, when I slap the beats on, I was amazed. Happy in a good way you know, the only drawback I would say would be the batteries. Three hundreds dollars may be expensive for some people but you get what you pay for. Everyone at my job was like, three hundred dollars. In my head, all I can say was, how are you listening to your music?
Disappointed with the Quality of the Product. [ Beats Studio Headphone ]
Using the isonitalk cable on my Iphone 4 with lots of iterferance and hissing noises hardly can be used to received incoming call !!! Maybe the cable that I have was a faulty one. Problem borrowing or getting another cable to try… ??? The cable was a bit too long ideally it should be about a meter long.
I almost lost the whole headphone. The supplied Touring case which I hooked onto my belt, the small strip of cloth attached with the hook burst and give way while I was crossing the road. I was lucky the car stop and let me pick it up.
I am used to listening to high end HiFi Sound system at home. The quality of the sound was acceptable but not that great as presented. The image and vocal staging was excellent. The EQ on the iPhone and Ipod Classic should be turn off. The quality of the recording should be of utmost important. Recommend all the songs should be converted to Apple Lossless format.
Use them daily
I bought these headphones a year ago for work. I work in a fairly loud environment and needed some thing to cancel a bit of the noise with out the volume set to the max. I looked and listened to a few other options, in the end the looks won me over.
Since buying them I have used them nearly every day at work, some times up to 8 hours at a time. Never once had a problem with anything. Not even with the hinges, and I fold them up Every Time! Well over a few hundred times. That was my main concern was those hinges breaking, or getting them all scratched up. I’ve bumped them on things pretty good a few times and I can only think of maybe one noticeable scratch and this is from working in a factory all day…
I am not audio nut but I would say these sound just as good as most headphones in the price range. I do hear the bit of extra base as most have said, but these are from the Dr. On a side note the batteries last me around 2 weeks (If I don’t forget to turn them off)
In the end I definitely feel like I have got my moneys worth a few times over.
Best Headphones. PERIOD!!!
Without a doubt, THE best headphones I have ever used. Excellent sound quality. Deep, rich bass. Unlike anything I have ever experienced. I have used them with my iPhone and laptop and have nothing but great things to say about them. If you ever get a chance to listen to them, you’ll be sold that they are the best you have ever heard.
Very nice headphones, I love them.
Before I start my review, I’d like to say that I am not an audiophile, but I do love music. So this review is towards the regular listeners who love music.
I received these two days ago, and I was really anticipating its arrival, and I am very satisfied with these product.
Since many like concise reviews, I will list the Pros and Cons.
Pros
-Very good packaging (If anybody cares about that)
-Great audio quality, well balanced and you can really feel the “dimensions” of music
-Sexy design
-Extremely Comfortable
-Good case, not the best, but will still get do the work of protecting the headphones
-Good extras (mute button, 1/8 to 1/4 jack, two cables (one with control talk, the mic quality is impressive), and thanks for the AAA batteries, Monster)
Cons
-Noise canceling isn’t as effective as I hoped it would be (i listen to my ipod nano 5g on about 25~45%)
-The hinges do not seem too strong (and one side of the headphones do not line up perfectly)
-Very expensive
-Can’t function without batteries
-Sound leaks very badly (50% on ipod nano 5g)
-Noise, or buzzing noises can be heard at low volumes
The overall build quality is pretty good, but I personally believe that if treated roughly it may break, especially around the hinges.
The build quality on the hinges could be improved.
I would recommend the studios to the people who have the money. If the cost is too much, I wouldn’t buy these, as there are many lower-cost headphones with decent sound.
