solid headphones, pricey.
i got these as a gift about a year ago and they’ve been great. i can’t really complain about the sound quality, they’re really good. although you can get a pair of some grados for a lot cheaper, the dres have the wow factor and the ’style’. as for mobility, they’re great, they fold up and come with a convenient little case. they’re easy to use, but eventually you get tired of wearing them, but they’re comfortable enough. the item quality was good, until about 5 months in when the piece of plastic above the earcup on the outside fastened on by the screws straight snapped off, almost as if the screws wore through the plastic and created bigger holes than the screws were meant to be in. they were obviously manufactured for about 60 dollars (of raw component price) and then marked up with a logo of a known musician.
these headphones are like buying the designer jeans of the audio world. so if you’ve got the money, you wont be disappointed. but if you’re on a budget do yourself a favor and get a pair of high end seinheisser phones or a pair of grados. if you are not familiar with grado, the grado SR125 is a good model to look at.
Am I Floating?
I do not own these. Yet. I am 16 years old and have loved music all my life. It runs through my veins and I live for every sweeping crescendo and swooping diminuendo. My dad has Bose Quietcomforts and I hate them. They droop down off your face and my Sony on-ear headphones (that are meant to just get the job done) sound a lot better. The Beats blow both out of the water. I try them on and listen to the Monster Beats tracks with Bass Boost on at the Apple Store every time I go to the mall. I have to honestly say that I am overjoyed to hear such quality sound entering my brain each and every time. Yes, I do aspire to have a trunk full of subs in my car, so obviously these bass-boosted cans are very much my forté, but even the odd things like 50 Cent’s monotone rapping voice just sound plain better through the Beats. I look forward to receiving them on my birthday (hopefully) this year, and they should make a good companion to the 4g iPod Touch, even if the sound quality of an iTunes device isn’t the greatest. That is all.
dammmmnn CONCERT ON THE EARS
WOW…..let me say…..i went to go buy the BOSE QC 15…..(299.00) and the bose sound great….their cancellation is second to NONE………..Then i checked out the BEATS ,displayed next to the Q15 in Bestbuy……..i was blown away at by range of bass….mids and highs……..they came thru Balanced & CLEAR….i then ordered the White pair on amaZon for (240.00)…..and over a month now ive enjoy my music like never before……i use them at work everyday..AND i havent changed the batteries(4hours/day)….i cant hear a soul …..nothing but music…..and sounds i havent heard before…(same music) i now listen to songs that i thought was ok….but find them alot more appealing cause i can appreciate the vocals and highs over the solid bass…and how its been mixed…….i save battery life (htc evo) cause im not using my bluetooth headphones…..BONUS…..LOVE THE EXTRA CORD for talking on the phone…….BUILD quality is top notch……the cords they supply (2) guages are sooo thick you’ll never have 2 worry bout them getting a short…..or tangling…….they ARE BIG…….but they LOOK real GOOD…best comfort ive had……..IM so glad i choose these over the BOSE QC 15’s……even though the BOSE HAVE SUPERIOR NOISE CANCELLATION …..they cant play the range of soundsTHE BEATS can….NO CONTEST……BEATS BY DRE ……..are the BEST PERIOD.(IMHO.
Very nice headphones, I love them.
Before I start my review, I’d like to say that I am not an audiophile, but I do love music. So this review is towards the regular listeners who love music.
I received these two days ago, and I was really anticipating its arrival, and I am very satisfied with these product.
Since many like concise reviews, I will list the Pros and Cons.
Pros
-Very good packaging (If anybody cares about that)
-Great audio quality, well balanced and you can really feel the “dimensions” of music
-Sexy design
-Extremely Comfortable
-Good case, not the best, but will still get do the work of protecting the headphones
-Good extras (mute button, 1/8 to 1/4 jack, two cables (one with control talk, the mic quality is impressive), and thanks for the AAA batteries, Monster)
Cons
-Noise canceling isn’t as effective as I hoped it would be (i listen to my ipod nano 5g on about 25~45%)
-The hinges do not seem too strong (and one side of the headphones do not line up perfectly)
-Very expensive
-Can’t function without batteries
-Sound leaks very badly (50% on ipod nano 5g)
-Noise, or buzzing noises can be heard at low volumes
The overall build quality is pretty good, but I personally believe that if treated roughly it may break, especially around the hinges.
The build quality on the hinges could be improved.
I would recommend the studios to the people who have the money. If the cost is too much, I wouldn’t buy these, as there are many lower-cost headphones with decent sound.
LOVE THESE HEADPHONES!!
First off I just want to say that I have been debating these headphones for a good 3 months now, I’ve done a ton of research on them and then I finally decided to spend the cash and get a pair. Let me tell you, I don’t regret my purchase at all! These headphones are fantastic! The sound is indescribable and the quality from what I can tell is pretty darn good! I also listening to basically every genre of music out there and everything sounds great from Gustav Mahler Symphonies to Miles Davis to Eminem to Slipknot….it all sounds great.
Being that said, I do have a few cons that may aid you in your purchase. 1) AAA Batteries, really monster you couldn’t come up with rechargeable solution? 2) The black controltalk cable (microphone cable) seems to be a little touchy with my iPhone 4, you can’t really touch it or move it or it will stop working 3) You all probably know this by now, but the sound leaking is pretty apparent…so if you don’t want people around to know what you’re listening too, then these might not be for you.
Overall, I love the headphones, they sound great, good quality and very stylish. I’d definitely recommend purchasing a pair!
They ALMOST Sound As Good As They Look
Let me begin by saying I’m no audiophile. I like good music and I like it to sound good too. I really never knew what I was missing in my music though until I listened to Royce da 5′9 from my iPhone through these headphones. It was like I was wearing a concert on my ears.
The bass from the headphones hits hard and the highs are extra crisp but some of the mid-range stuff seems a little off. Not bad, I just think it gets drowned out by the awesome highs and lows.
These things look cool and sound great plus everyone knows that you’re serious about your music when they see you wearing them. They’re a great conversation starter; the trademark “b” is gradually becoming more recognizable so people frequently ask how you like them and “are those the new Dr. Dre headphones?”
Never in my life did I think I would spend this much money on a pair of headphones but it was definitely a worthwhile purchase. If you can fit them in your budget I promise you will be pleased.
Best sound quality ive heard
I have never enjoyed the sound of headphones more than this. these have by far the best sound quality compared to any other brand.
It’s only sin is not having snob appeal for audiophools……
I’ve owned about twenty pairs of headphones in my life.
Koss, Pioneer, Koss again, Pioneer again, Sennheiser 560’s, 600’s and I’ve listened critically to DOZENS more.
The uppermost octave is not as extended or “forward” as say the Grado HF-2 or the Denon 7000’s.
Consider that a weakness if you love treble, but it hits my ear as “flat” and not “forward”.
Don’t let propagandists tell you they’re overpriced. The street prices are currently around $175.00. For me, they’re worth every penny.
The Bass is the best of any headphone I’ve ever owned. The distortion is low because the Monster Beats use a digital amplifier.
I use mine in conjunction with a Ray Samuels P-51 outboard portable headphone amp.
My Sennheisers (higher impedance by orders of magnitude) quake, tremble, distort and clip all over the place.
The Beats are clean, crisp and above all DYNAMIC.
Telarc Organ or Orchestra CD’s? Fear not….
Rock or Commercial multichannel mono? It stoops to conquer.
Jazz and various kinds of “Oooooh there’s a palpable presence as Miles sways back and forth”. Yeah. It does that too.
What it doesn’t do is require you to drop two or three thousand dollars on an outboard dedicated headphone amp.
And for that it is hated in some internet corners.
I’ve never had any build quality issues, but I don’t spend days with them wrapped around my neck.
When I’m not listening they’re in their case.
I’m a professional musician and I’ve spent time in studios. Studio headphones sound like crap on purpose.
These are NOT studio headphones. They’re high fidelity headphones.
LISTEN for yourself.
Like Zappa used to say:
“Thwart a norm” by making up your own mind.
Rediscovering music
let me start by saying this This headphones are great, they are comfortable, nice looking, and they do sound great.
As of now I don’t regret buying them, the sound is above average and the design as you have noticed is really attractive, in the matter of materials i’m not very satisfied, the plastic in the components seems cheap, both in the cables and in the headphones. For the price, i would expect better quality in materials, Also there is a notable sound leak if you play the music too loud, so it might be annoying if there is people close to you.
Other than that they are a great pair of headphones.
Poor build quality
I bought a pair of Beats Studio after my four-year-old pair of Bose QC3s started developing a whistling feedback loop.
For the first half hour I was incredibly impressed. The sound is fantastic.
However, then I tried pressing the “Mute” button on the left headphone. Since then, the sound has been cutting in and out depending on how I hold my head. For a $300 pair of headphones, on the first afternoon, this is HUGELY unacceptable. From reading some of the other reviews here, I’m not alone in experiencing this.
I’m not interested in getting a “repair” on these. Given the shoddy quality, I’m going to send these back and go for the Bose QC15s. They’re expensive too, but experience tells me they’ll last me considerably more than a couple of hours.
The quality on these headphones are TERRIBLE!!
Ive gone through two of the monster beats by dre and both of them broke. Dont buy these headphones!!!
Broken Beats Studio
Well I was on my way to Iraq and wanted a pair of Bose QC-15, but at the airport they were overpriced. Saw these at a Best Buy kiosk and purchased them. Opened box, put in the batteries and they did a decent job with my Ipod touch. However the mute decided it wanted to be intermittent.
Contacted their customer support and ended up sending them back for repair, and they can’t send them back to me, so guess my wife will have to send them. Hope they work then.
Cheaply made, broken earphones
I received my first set of these headphones from Amazon broken. One of the “B’s” on the earcups was off, and I could see the underlying circuitry. These things are cheaply made, with poor quality plastic buttons, slides & clasps to hold everything together.
My second replacement pair was received the next day. These were not broken, but there is a constant buzzing in one of the earcups when you turn these things on. After trying for a day, the buzzing is still there, making this product completely unusable.
I bought these as an alternative to the Bose QC 15’s, and there’s no comparison. Bose makes a FAR better unit, of higher build & sound quality. These Monster headphones are a complete rip-off. DO NOT BUY.
Noise leakage is terrible
I really wanted to love this product. These headphones are sleek, unlike most headphones of this type, and sounded fantastic. Easily the best sound I’ve experienced coming out of a headphone. However, once I tested them out at home, my mom could hear my entire song as if I was playing it in a surround sound system throughout the house. that was at about 50% volume through my Ipod. Considering these have noise cancelling, you’d think they’d be great to take on an airplane (the primary reason I purchased these) or use on a subway, a library, etc. However, unless you want everyone in these places to listen to the new MGMT cd along with you, these really are more of a problem than a solution. Also, the noise cancelling was almost unnoticeable compared to my dad’s Bose on-ears. These really do sound nice, but if you want a more personal, isolated experience I just can’t recommend them.
Wonderful if you’re the type person who wants to be noticed
I bought these headphones off amazon “Used-Like New” and I’m glad I did. The price of 299.99 plus S&H is quite a hefty price for a pair of headphones which is why I got them used for $220. Everything from the build quality, packaging, sound quality, and aesthetics gives you the feel that you just bought a pair of headphones you wont think about returning.
Pros:
-They look fantastic. My friend has a black pair which picks up a lot of finger prints so I suggest getting the white pair. Not only do they fix that finger print dilemma, they also look cooler(well to me that is).
-They feel sturdy and well made.
- Sound quality is amazing. The first time i tried these headphones was at a Apple store and I remember the instant I put ‘em on I was dead set on getting me a pair, once I had the money. I stood in the store for a good 30 minutes just listening to music. Within in the thirty minutes they headphones were remarkably comfortable. The cushions on the ear cups are as soft as can be.
-There is a mute feature on the headphone, where you press on your right headphone and it mutes the music so if people are talking to you, you dont have to take off your headphones and inevitably put them back on.
Cons:
There are only a few things i did not like about the headphones but they are only petty things.
-Noise cancellation should be better since you’re paying about the same price as Bose QuietComforts which do a much better job than the Beats. You can definitely tell its blocking out some noise but in the Apple store I could still tell I was in store with people if I were to close to my eyes.
-The amplifier needs 2 AAA batteries in order to work. They last pretty long but its one of those of things that you forget, and when the batteries die you usually dont have spares around. So What i advise is carry spares with you or use Rechargeable batteries.
Overall I love these headphones and definitely recommend them IF you have the money for them because they will leave a dent in your wallet(it sure did to me, I just wanted them really bad)
WAY OVERPRICED
I am a crazed music fan, so when it comes to headphones, I would love the BEST quality out there for an affordable price. I was lookin for headphones that people found most comfortable and with the best quality. Many of these people referred me to Dr. Dre’s Monster Beat. At the time, I’ve only seen them worn by celebrities and or athletes such as kobe bryant, lebron james, etc. Well I digress, my review here is not to suggest you to not purchase this product but to advise you that these headphones are definitely not worth the price. I have been purchasing skull candy’s for awhile now, most headphones I’ve purchased were decent quality, but weren’t top notch. Looking for top notch, I assumed these were on the list. But to my dissapointment, these weren’t as top notch as people make them out to be. I admit, they look very stylish with a clean finish. It is very comfortable and portable. The quality were good, but weren’t great. The material has nothing special, just something you could find on any headphones. If you are a huge music fan as I am and are willing to put about THREE bills on headphones, then these are decent. But if you are looking for affordable headphones, these obviously aren’t the way to go, skull candy’s compared to monster beat obviously wouldn’t be the same, but skull candy’s definitely are a lot more affordable and give exceptional quality.
Great Pair of Headphones
A friend of mine had these headphones so I got to try them out before I decided to buy them. When he told me they cost $300 I laughed and thought why pay that much for headphones. After trying them however I understood why purchasing a high end headphone is worth it. The sound quality you get from these are easily 2 or 3 times better than anything I had heard before. From what I understand the fact that the headphone uses battery power gives it the power it needs to produce base and volume. 5.1 Surround sounds awesome. Music you have listened to for years sounds new and improved when you can really hear the full range of sound. I am very satisfied with this headphone and would suggest it to my friends. It is definitely worth the cost.
Beats studio by dr dre
As soon as I bought this I had buyers remorse. Then I got it within 2 days international courier and plugged em in and never looked back.
It has brought back the appreciation for music I had lost over the years. In my younger years I spend so much money tricking up my car audio system to get the perfect sound. While I got close I never got there. This headphones has given me the full spectrum of sound something I could never replicate with my home or car stereo.
Plain and simply put, it makes music better. Master producers like dr dres music sounds unbelievable and sorry to say lady gaga album is taken to a new level. Older music is somewhat improved but your underground stuff that’s poorly produced won’t sound too much better.
Was a revelation for me and well worth the money. I get excited about music again and for that I’m grateful.
Beats be Bangin
Simply the best out there. Take care of them since they’re so expensive tho.
seriously?!?
I had such great expectations for these headphones, absolutely every review I read raved about them. And then I got them. At first I was blown away, the sound quality was amazing!!! Then after two weeks the sound started randomly cutting out and I was like what the…? So I sent them back and got sent a replacement. I have had them for three weeks and what would you know the sound has started randomly cutting out. I’ll be listening to a song, jamming, and then all of a sudden there is silence…not what I was looking for. If you want amazing sound quality BUY THESE HEADPHONES NOW, however, if you would like this quality to last longer than a month, buy a real pair of headphones. The Beats By Dre just go to show that even though you do get what you pay for there are still companies out there trying to rip you off with there cheap “just for the money” merchandize. Seriously disappointed.
