J2 earbud review by J. Ahrens
I have owned my J2 earbuds for over 1 year (out of warranty) and generally I’ve been pleased with them. In the last few months I have been receiving intermittent cutout in the right earpiece and despite moving the cables around to see if there was a break I could not find one. The other day I finally determined the cable just above the reinforcement on the plug obviously has a broken or badly damaged wire as that is what is causing the problem. There is no external damage visible on the wire. I am not an everyday user of my iPod, and I also keep the earbuds in a case when not in use, so I felt the breakage was premature. I feel having a right angle plug would minimize the flexing of the cord and possibly a slightly heavier cord would also make them a little more durable. Overall I think the sound quality is very good and the comfort and ambient noise reduction is good. In general I would recommend them, although other then the original iPod earbuds, I have no other basis for comparison. The only other thing I would like to see is a little lower profile because at times I like to sleep with music on and the earbuds are uncomfortable if you lay on your side.
Broken on arrival
I ordered two pairs of these headphones. One pair had no sound from one earbud (as mentioned in other reviews) I returned it through amazon and a week later received a box containing a bag for the replacement headphones, only it did not contain the headphones, only replacement rubber tips for the headphones.
Good for a few months..
In the last two years I have learned not to expect more than 5-6 months from a set of in-ear headphones. These are not an exception to the theory. They worked great for about 4 months, even held up to the sweat produced at the gym (which kills apple headphones instantly). they also are very good at noise cancellation. When I have them in and the volume is about half way, I can’t hear anything else around me. I usually listen to my music pretty loud and they handled that well also.
The problem comes in with durability. There isn’t much. Other than the sweat-resistance these headphones don’t have must resistance to everyday wear and tear. I’m a college student and the only time these headphones would be used would be walking to class, in class, and sitting at my desk or in the library. They lasted a while and now the right earphone doesn’t produce any sound at all. I believe it’s due to the wire coming loose in the earphone. Plain and simple.
Not bad to spend 15$ for great headphones…for 5 months.
Cables damaged by poor packaging
Got my pair in the mail today, but I am sad to say that they were un-useable. Twist tie that was used to keep the cable neatly wrapped in the package cut the soft rubber cable. When I unwrapped the twist tie I noticed a few areas that were damaged, about every 5 inches or so. In some areas the metal wire was exposed. When I was repackaging to ship back to Amazon one ear cable severed completely. I hope the next par I receive will be properly packaged.
Good buy for the price!
The Good: Excellent cord Length, very good sound quality-not gonna satisfy a diehard audiofile but for the price it’s a great deal. Sound quality gets better the longer it is used for the first few weeks once the headphones are “worn in”. Every time I put them in my ears I’m really glad I went with these instead of another set of the OEM’s.
Other Thoughts: Doesn’t have a cord clip to keep the cord from getting tangled or a volume control but then again it’s not enough to be in the bad category…just enough for me to dock it one star.
Ehh… they broke.
These things are ok. They are too long, meaning they stick out of your ear too much. It is impossible to lay with your ear on a pillow with these in, it hurts. After a month or so the cord started to break inside where the connector is. They are now unusable. The sound quality was just ok while they lasted. I think I’m going to try some Sennheisers. I’ve never been disappointed by that brand name.
Awesome
I must say i am highly fascinated by the Jbuds. The sound is great and the isolation is fantastic at the same time. I can only recommend to anyone who wants to get a good pair of headphones for a fair price!
Beware…..
Purchased these earbuds as a replacement for my ipod. I was looking for something reasonable. When I saw the price that this product was originally selling for and how it had been reduce 80% I couldn’t resist. The 80% off should have been an indicator. I went through two pairs in less than 30 days. The first pair’s right earbud failed, so I returned the product, giving them the benefit of the doubt, and received a new set free of charge(only positive thing about my experience). It wasn’t long before the right earbud went out again. I’m now requesting my money back.
Would be great if they stayed in my ears
These sound good, seem pretty durable and would otherwise be great for the price. However, they won’t stay in my ears. Even chewing gum causes them to fall out. I can still use them since I use them at my desk, but if I had to wear these when doing any kind of physical activity they would be useless.

I have bought these ear buds multiple times. And Usually they last about 5 months, not bad for the price and how much I use them. But the last pair I bought stopped working after 1 week!
Good for the Money
The sound quality is lacking but for the money they are good. Especially for audio books.
Didn’t last long
I purchase this product on 9/15/10 when I start using them the sound quality was great and I was very happy with my purchase but a week ago I notice that only the left side was working and now I have to place the plug that goes into the ipod in certain position or hold it firmly in order for both sides to work. I don’t use my ipod frequently so I dont think that I screw it up and I always put my earplug in a secure place after use. I’m returning this product for an exchange or refund.
Great for the price!
I don’t usually write reviews but I felt I needed to for these earbuds. First off I have purchased a number of earbuds that cost more but don’t sound or last nearly as long as these. The sound quality is good and those little things carry a nice bass line. The best thing about these is just how comfortable these are. I have tried just about every earbud design, add-on/insert, etc… These are by far the most light and comfortable form fitting earbuds I’ve purchased. This is a must if your looking for good earbuds for a reasonable price.
They were good but stopped working in three months
They were good. I enjoyed using them. But one of the earphones stopped working after three months. I had to get another pair of earphones.
Great product AND customer service
I’m one of those very wired people who walk around with headphones on all the time, and as such, I’ve gone through a LOT of different headphones/earphones/earbuds. I find earbuds to be the most comfortable for prolonged use, and I found these on Amazon for a great price, so I decided to try them out.
These buds are GREAT. They’re super comfortable — I’ve even fallen asleep several times, while wearing these — and you just can’t beat the sound quality. I used to switch to Coby Sport Isolation Stereo Earphones CVE93 (Black) for running, and the differences in sound quality would throw me off so much that I stopped switching.
And then one day the inevitable happened: the J2’s stopped working properly, with the sound erratically going in and out, usually in one ear or the other. Since the Amazon purchase came with a 1-year warranty, I emailed the JLab customer service, and my replacement pair arrived in the mail 4 days later! What’s more, the replacement comes with its own 1-year warranty, so if I have problems again, I can simply contact JLab again for help.
All in all, this product is awesome, totally worth it.
Good Ear Buds
I bought a pair and 3 months later I needed them replaced due to a damaged jack. They sent me a new pair no questions and no hasle.
They sound and fit great
Good quality; Decent Comfort
The sound quality of these Earbuds is great and they get loud if you let them. My only problem with them so far is that they went deeper into my ear than the Earbuds I usually use. I felt like I was having a doctor check my ears when they insert the otoscope. Once you get used to them they aren’t as bad, but I never forget they’re there.
They continually stop working
This is the second set I have bought and it is the last. Five months of using them and suddenly they just stop working. The first pair I thought maybe I had done something wrong, but this time makes it clear that it is the earbuds themselves. The sound is good and everything else about them is just fine, but five months is not long enough for good use.
Truly PREMIUM Sound Quality….So much…for little
I own the Klipsch Image S4 earphones and I pay a premium to have them. These earbuds are very close to the same quality sound. I purchase a pair for everybody in my house. 4 pairs and I am sure there will be more to come. These are worth you money.. ENJOY!!!
Good choice
I am not unhappy with these earbuds. Good quality. I have a hard time with fitting earbuds into my ear. They are comfortable and don’t fall out… love the color.
