My cat did me a favor!
I previously had a pair of V-Moda Bass Freqs. They were my 3rd set of buds in a quest for something comfortable with good sound. They were OK – that’s all. After 3 tries I had resigned myself to the fact that little buds just were not going to have full bodied sound. Sunday I noticed my Zune HD on the floor minus all but a tail of the ear bud cord had been chewed off… my precious kitty had struck! I promptly set out to find a replacement at Amazon.
I just unpacked the JBud J3s and gave them a test listen. WOW! Buds CAN have full bodied sound. Bass was considerably better than my other three without being muddy or clouding up the mid and high frequencies. On top of that they are very comfortable. I am very pleased.
ahhh, the comfort.
if you work in an office with other programmed drones and like to drown your co workers out. you, like me have ear buds in your skull for hours. well, i find that most brands hurt after hours of use… i broke the issue down to my ear canals are kind of small and nobody makes a tiny inner ear piece. well… till these puppies.
the ear buds arrived and to my surprise they included a really tiny (the smallest i have seen) inner ear piece among the 4 sizes of changeable ones. i had some issues getting them on. i broke out a paper clip, bent it straight and kind of levered them on. Yes, they are that small.
i was unsure how they would feel due to a lack of padding. however, they feel better than anything i have tried and i have tried a lot. Not to mention the sound is awesome. i fallowed the instructions and let my iPod play at almost the highest level for 48hrs stright to “let the driver warm up.
Q:”why not wear clamshell head phones?”
A: i hate a clamshell, that’s why.
Q:”-INSERT X BRAND OF EXPENSIVE INNER BUDS HERE- feel really good and have awesome sound. have you tried them?”
A: no, i refuse to spend over $50 on headphones of any kind; unless they grant me magical powers… then we’ll talk
in short: good deal, good product, great comfort and great sound. Not to mention shipping was quick too.
Thanks for a great product,
Vash
Overall Very good!
I am a fan of JLab now in general. I received a pair of J2’s for Christmas two years ago. Those were great! They lasted almost a year, then I made the stupid mistake of running with them in weather below 32 degrees! I was surprised at first when the sound was totally weird, but then after analyzing what could have happened, I realized it was the running. So I was gifted another pair of J2’s for Christmas last year. Those lasted about six months, then they got eaten by the mower. :’( but enough history. On to the J3’s.
Me and my family were getting ready to go on a long drive, so I was desperate to get a new pair of earbuds, and I had my eye on these for a while. After getting them, I was delighted and a little disappointed at the same time. The sound quality straight out of the box was awesome, but it wasn’t perfect. The bass is tight and punchy as advertised, with just enough boom to make it perfect. The treble is perfect also. It’s sharp, but not cutting if you know what I mean. The mids are what disappointed me. In comparison with the J2’s, the mids are… it’s hard to describe, but the best way to say it is that they are muddy. It got a little better with about 4ish hours of burn in, and after a while I got used to it, so it wasn’t really a problem. Over all sound quality is 4.5 stars.
Build quality is 3 stars because after about 2 months of use, the driver came out of the housing and is attached only by the wires. They look really stylish, but it’s kind of a “turn off” when they seem to break easily. It appears I am not the only one with this problem. It would have been nicer if they could have somehow made the housing all one piece.
I was really disappointed that they broke so soon, but my “affections” for JLab were given new vigor soon after. I contacted them via email explaining my problem, and they politely replied back explaining how I could get a new replacement… FREE!!!!! You send them the information, and they send you the replacement. It’s that easy!
So to conclude: Sound Quality- 4.5 Stars, Build quality- 3 stars, Stylishness- 5 stars, Customer Service- 5.5 stars!
I am hoping my new pair lasts a fair bit longer. If you don’t want to have the risk of breakage but want the same sound quality, I highly HIGHLY recommend the JLab J2’s. But I have grown to love these buds. The customer service made up for my misfortune. If you’re looking for a pair of earbuds that sound SIGNIFICANTLY better than apples, look great, and feel really comfortable, then try these earbuds!
Economical and satisfactory for its price range
Entry-level earphones. Being somewhat an earphones nerd and having used earphones of varying price levels in the last 10 years, I can tell that the sound quality is acceptable for the price range, if not impressive. Do not expect the sound quality of, say, 100-200 sennheiser earphones. However, in classical, contemporary jazz and funk music, the bass and trebles are satisfactory and the volume level is acceptable. The product is shipped with various pair of buds. Noise-isolation is, again, satisfactory for the price range yet definitely far from $100-200 earphones. You can use these, as i do, during traveling, and use higher quality studio headphones at home. The travel case is probably the most attractive aspect of these earphones, and it is really the most satisfactory solution I have ever witnessed in earphone cases (including those accompanying much more expensive ones).
Good But Not Great
The headphones worked fine on my PC, but with the iPhone the highs were too sharp. After a while, they started to fall apart. The chrome-colored part falls off the black casing, so I would have to put them back again. However, they just fell out again. Eventually, after that part came off, the left bud died once a wire got severed.
Annoying clicking noises, died after a couple of months of use. Not recommended.
As many others said it has a nice looking. It fit well to my year. However, it had clicking noises (like electro static noises) from the beginning. After a couple of months it stop working. No sound at all. I used it only when I was working at desk. Not during running or other exercise. Now I know other people mentioned this problem. So, it is not an isolated issue. I should have read them before buying it. I will look for another pair by a different manufacturer.
Worse than I expected
Out of the box, the JBuds J3 headphones looked slightly like a previous purchase I have made of the Skullcandy Ink’d in-ear headphone, which I did not like.
The cords are pretty stiff and the ear buds are actually quite hard. This makes it kind of uncomfortable to wear. When you put the buds into your ear they kind of make the feeling of being underwater (in a bad way). Other in-ear buds are much better and feel very comfortable such as the Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones, White which are personally my favorite pair I’ve ever bought.
Now other than comfort, their sound quality is pretty horrible.
I tried playing a few different genres, and for some reason, they just brought out the bass in all of the songs (as many reviewers have stated previously, and I agree COMPLETELY with). The sound quality in general is under par, and it just does a bad job. In fact, I actually think the generic iPod headphones sound better than these. I am by no means an audiophile, yet I can tell that these produce poor quality music.
Here’s what I did like.
I did like the 4 different ear bud sizes, as most in-ear buds come with only 3 different sizes, and these headphones are quite small and look cool. I also like the fact that the cord is a very nice size, and i like the Y-shape of the cord because it looks “cooler” in my opinion. They are also pretty cheap I guess, I bought mine for around $25, but are kind of a waste of money. I really don’t plan on using these, as they are a pretty big disappointment. Spend your money on better headphones, you might regret buying these.
Pros:
-Cool style
-Price
-4 different ear bud sizes
-small
Cons:
-Quality (too much bass/bad sound quality)
-Comfort (ear buds are very stiff)
2 pair dead after 6 months
I bought 2 pair of these headphones, 1 as a gift and 1 for myself. I was really happy with them at first but the quality of this product has proven to be very disappointing. They are comfortable and sound great for the price. They don’t have as much bass as some ear buds I’ve used, but the clarity and sound quality are excellent. I also really like the case and the silicone tips feel good and come in a nice variety of sizes. Unfortunately, these headphones didn’t last very long. 1 pair shorted out after about 3 months. The second pair died after 6 months. These headphones are fairly inexpensive and I know… you get what you pay for. Still, regardless of the price,I expect them to last longer than 6 months. I would not recommend these headphones and will stay away from this company’s products in the future.
Best ear phones I’ve used
After approximately 1 month of use, the ear phones have worked very well. They tend to block out extraneous sounds from out side, while still having the clarity you expect from a good set. However, I do believe the carrying case is an unnecessary item.
worth your money
Recently I bought these after a very long fight for affordable and good earphones..
Thanks to amazon and their customers for the reviews. I believed them and guess what? these are the best in ear head phones you can ask for. I was pretty much impressed with the sound quality of these.
Recently I went to the MAC store in NY to exchange my friends earphones. I think it is the busiest store in NY after the iPhone 4 release, It was very noisy and I thought this is the nice place to check my Jbuds quality, there was a big collection of expensive headphones in the store and I was trying them on to compare with mine. I always wanted to buy Monster Beats by Dr. (Something.. I forgot) because of their style and quality.. I tried to compare them with my Jbuds and seriously they were awesome then I tried mine, Trust Me! I felt so good that actually my Jbuds is equally good in the quality and bass effects. Then I ran to my friend to ask him to try and compare my earphones with Monster Beats, even he was convinced that Jbuds is really good. Then I came out of the store with a smiling face and I was proud of myself that I got my money worth actually even more…
Thanks to JLAB for creating affordable Monster Jbeats(JBUDS) for an affordable price..
Wonderful Customer Service
I can’t speak for the audio quality of these headphones, as I am far from an expert in that area. They work well enough for my listening needs!
What I can attest to is the high quality of customer service that JLab offers. The left earbud stopped working after about 7 months of use. I simply emailed customer service, told them the product and order number, and they mailed me a new pair.
I can highly recommend these products based on customer service alone.
OK, but not the best
This earphone is a little lacking in the mid range without modification. I find that I have to increase between 1K-6K to get the vocals to play clearly, but once I set them, it plays alright. The noise isolation is good. 4 sizes of buds-I use the 2nd smallest. Smooth coating on the wires reduces rubbing noises. It’s better than the cheap stuff that comes prepackaged with most mp3 players. But, I thought my previous EP630 and CX300 were a little better than these, although I don’t have them anymore to compare with, so I couldn’t be definitive on that.
Decent, but with some key issues.
First of all, these feel like solid headphones. I haven’t had them long enough to see if they can stand up to the test of time, but they certainly look and feel the part. These also have fantastic bass, which is best described as overwhelming. They have the strongest bass of any other earbud headphones which I have tried within this price range (~$25). While listening to music, it is fine. The bass is, however, far too much when using it for video games (I tried it with Modern Warfare 2 on an Xbox 360). I find myself wishing that it were possible to readjust it.
My main issues are the following:
1. The sound will begin to crack on some loud and fast paced songs to the point of being unbearable.
2. Any type of contact with the cord with or without the sound on is loudly audible. This includes so much as rubbing the cord slightly, or even breathing on it. This is my main issue with these phones, and while I am not completely displeased with my purchase, I probably won’t buy these again the next time I go headphone shopping.
Edit: It was windy outside today and the noise it made by hitting the cord for these headphones was louder than the music I was listening to.
Edit #2: While the issue with bumping the cord still exists, the sound quality has greatly improved over time. The bass is now very nice and not at all overwhelming. These are great headphones, but unfortunately not for active people who have to move around with them. I have added a star because of the increase in sound quality.
Excellent for the price
I’ve had these since December and I use them every day for most of the day, and they’ve held up very well. The only downside is that there’s a little bit too much treble and not enough bass initially, and as you break them in (as the manufacturer tells you to), they get better, but I had to use the ‘treble reducer’ setting on my iPhone to get the sound I wanted.
They’re extremely comfortable and durable, and for $25 you’re just not going to find a better pair of this style of headphone. Also, despite what a few odd reviews might say, they work just fine with any and all iPods and iPhones.
Good Customer Service and Product
I had a problem with an older product of mine from JLab and they were extremely helpful in resolving it. My old headphones were replaced with the J3’s and they are amazing. Sound great, very durable. Customer service was outstanding. Definitely recommend, and would purchase more in the future.
Boom for your buck
Many of the other reviews have already said it, but I just wanted to reiterate the value of the J3s. Either everyone else is charging way too much or JLab is a non-profit organization (obviously the former).
My only complaint is that they didn’t hold up the second time I put them through the washing machine. I have a tendency to leave them in my pockets after using them at the gym. Somehow they made it through the first wash. Time to save up for a new pair…which fortunately shouldn’t take too long.
Good Headphones for a Good Price
These are the best headphones that I’ve ever owned. You do have to burn them in first before getting the optimum sound quality, but they’ll sound amazing after! On my own mistake, I broke my headphones by wrapping them too tightly around my iPod. J-lab sent me another pair for FREE under warranty. I have never been able to do that with any other headphones that I have owned. J-lab actually cares for their customers unlike some other companies. I would definitely recommend these headphones to anyone that is sick of their plain old headphones.
You will not regret them!
First of all, I have to say, these are AMAZING.
My first pair of these were defunct, because apparently something happened with my left ear bud. The bass was not so great, and the volume was lower. Also it wasn’t as clear. I sent in a customer service email, and I got a very prompt reply. They were so quick about it, and I received a new pair after just a couple days.
The sound quality is great. I noticed, if you burn-in the earbuds, they sound so much better. Even 15-20 hours is all that’s needed to set them right.
Bass is also amazing. The only time you don’t hear it, is if it’s not completely in your ear. I can easily say it sizes up to BOSE headphones, except that highs, lows, midtones are very very clear. Insanely clear, if you use the burn-in @ JLab’s website, which exercises the drivers really well. It’s so clear that at loud volumes, violin, piano, etc and high pitches destroy my ear lol
Customer service is great, and over-all a great company. Nice cord, nice aluminium shell for the buds. Seriously, worth every penny, and they’re so confident with the 1 year guarantee. Amazing.
Good value
I let these break in for about 24 hours before listening and I was pleasantly surprised. They sound very nice. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a good price on some quality headphones.
Gorgeous, durable, and exceptionally clear
I bought these headphones after my iPod headphones broke. Before that I used Sony, iLove, and Coby. Compared to the aforementioned brands, these high-quality JBuds J3s are like the difference between day and night. When I first listened to them, I was amazed by their clarity. I felt like I was in the studio, listening to the band recording the song! It’s that clear. The treble is good, and they they have amazing brightness and dynamic volume.
They are gorgeous looking. I own the slick black and the gray colors. Both sound great. They are comfortable and durable. They are sure to last you much longer than your previous headphones. My black pair got water on it accidental, and now the right ear does not sound that great, so avoid contact with water! The also don’t tangle easily because of the material of the wire. The case is exceptionally useful. I got them from eBay for around $20, which is the cheapest I’ve seen them.
The only concern I have with them, is that when I am at the gym or in the car, too much background sound is leaking into my ear. I have to turn up my iPod louder to hear the music.
