PERFECT
These headphones are perfect. They live up to Their brand name. You can’t beat the price. I love them.
Comfortable headphones at an amazing price
I make computer games, so I’m often wearing headphones all day long. I need the headphones to be comfortable, and because I’m hard of hearing, I need volume control.
These headphones work great — the sound quality is reasonably good, the volume control is very helpful, and they’re the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn.
I find that products I like are often discontinued (why?), so I’m planning to buy two pairs of these to just keep around for when the ones I’m using now eventually break.
Good sound, cheap construction
I needed a set of headphones for playing bass without disturbing my family. These were cheap enough, and had great reviews, so I ordered them. When they arrived, I was very disappointed to see that the plug is a tiny plastic piece. My son had a pair of Koss headphones with this same plug, and they broke almost immediately. Walmart exchanged them for him the first time, but it happened again a couple of weeks later despite him being very careful with them. These headphones sound very good for the price, but I am going to have to be very careful and not break the plug, which means that they are going to have to stay plugged into my Rockman and I will never be able to use them for anything else. I will not buy another pair of Koss headphones again unless they show a picture of the plug. I’ll be surprised if these last 3 months.
Good earphones for the money.
After getting tired of the original earbuds falling out and the poor quality sound of the so-called premium earbuds from Zune, I checked a lot of reviews and purchased these Koss headphones. The sound quality of these phones is excellent. They are light weight but still a little bulky. This is OK for sitting and reading a book, but make them not terribly convenient to travel with. Overall I am quite pleased with them and would recommend them with only the size caveat.
Great earphones!
Over the years I’ve “worn out” several sets of these earphones (I use them heavily – daily on my walks). You can’t beat the sound quality for lightweight earphones! If fact they are as good as some “Heavyweights”. I would pay three times the price if I had to replace these. I could not find a better set for my use. The in-line volume control makes this device especially useful for a walking set.
excellent portable phones
Lightweight, reasonably comfortable and an in line volume control. just the ticket for portable music. i use them with my Blackbery and with my media player. considering the price the sound is very impressive, there is plenty of bass.
Can’t Beat ‘Em For The Price
You can’t beat these hadphones for the price. They’re crisp and clear like more expensive headphones, have sufficient bass, they’re light weight and they have the handy little volume control. They’re great vacation headphones because if you lose them or break them you’re only out $20.00. Great deal.
Very nice headphones or the money
The Koss KTXPRO1 headphones are a very good buy for the money. The sound is excellent, with more bass (but not too much) than Sony’s. I use the volume control a lot more than I thought I would, & now I can’t imagine headphones w/o one. The only slight negative is that I possess very little hair on top of my head, & the piece that helps hold the ‘phones on doesn’t grip well enough when I look down: opps! Headphones in my lap! They are comfortable for wearing for several hours at a time. All in all, I <3 these.
Incredible bang for the buck
I have two other higher-end headphones, a set of Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros and Grado SR60i’s. While the treble isn’t as pronounced and crisp as those headphones, considering the Beyers cost well over $250-300 and the Grados go for $75+, for $15 these Koss phones are a steal. Their sound is well balanced overall, with clear midrange and bass that isn’t remotely muddy or boomy. The treble is a bit soft but isn’t remotely harsh like some cheaper phones; a bit of tweaking your treble tone controls is all you need to fix it up. They don’t sound honky like most any other headphone I’ve tried at 3x the price, like some of the low-end Sennheiser phones and nearly any Sony product I’ve tried. Natural sounding is probably the best I can describe these phones with a bit of a soft high end.
You can’t go wrong for inexpensive headphones with this set. It’s gotta be one of the best values for headphones.
Yep Great Bought 2
Just as everyone says – but the volume control is NOT gray like in the photo – it’s black and these are EXACTLY the same as the same Titanium headphones I bought from Radio Shack a few years ago – - – NO DIFFERENT / just at a great price… so glad I found them here!
Just wish the blue thing over the head was more “in style” but who cares… the rubber part keeps it on my head while I’m jogging. It’s good.
I don’t like them
I purchased these to use with my TV in my bedroom to listen to at night while my wife is trying to sleep. Had to purchase a different pair because my wife could still hear the sound while I was wearing them. I then tried them with my iphone. They work okay but I find them vevy uncomfortalble on my ears. I think it’s because the speakers pivot and don’t fit flat on your ears. I can’t seem to adjust them to fit good. I have a size 7 head which is on the small side and my wife can still hear the music if she is near me. I didn’t pay much for them because I purchased them off ebay for about $10.00 I replaced them with a pair of Sennheiser HD 202 I bought off Amazon for about $27.00. What a difference, a litle bit heavier but a lot more confortable better sound quality and when I wear them connected to the TV at night my wife can’t hear anything. Would highly recommend the Sennheiser if your using them with a sound system.
Awesome headphones in their own right, but at this price? Incredible value!
I’ve been using this model headphone in its various incarnation for almost 15 years. The fact that I keep coming back for the same set of headphones every time a pair breaks down speaks for itself.
I first found these at as a RadioShack branded headphone for $20 back in the mid 1990’s, and was amazed by the sound quality given the price point. I use these headphones as my workout headphones, so they get a good beating, causing me to need to replace them every couple of years, and I always seemed to return to RadioShack to buy the exact same pair.
At some point in the mid 2000’s the RadioShack branded model disappeared from the shelves and was replaced by the Koss branded model (exact same headphones, just a different name) for $40. Even at $40 I thought they were worth it and continued to replace them as they wore out.
Most recently I returned again to RadioShack to pick up yet a replacement pair and found RadioShack no longer carried them under any name, so I turned to the internet and found them here on Amazon. At $15!! How psyched was I?!?
I share all this just to point out that, year after year, I have yet to find a better pair of over-the-head earphones, even when they were priced as high as $40. They sound great – fantastic, balanced bass response – they’re comfortable as over-the-head earphones get.
My only critique is that the inline volume control wears out over time and you lost audio in one ear. My solution has been to just tape the inline control in place to keep the volume control from moving, and adjust the volume from my iPod.
very good sound but material feels cheap
Keeping in mind I have only had them for about 3 days.
They feel good on the ears and they sound good plus they were a good price. The material feels a bit cheap both the headset itself and the cable so that I feel I need to be delicate with them. The cable is uber long I don’t know what’s up with that, why would I need a 4 foot cable 0_O so I have a bit of it still tied with the twisty tie so it doesn’t get hooked on things when I walk by them or my little dog thinks it’s a toy that I’m dangling over him.
Volume slider shorts out
These are some pretty average-sounding headphones. The cool thing that I liked about them was the volume control on the cable. However, it was entirely uncool when the volume control shorted out. We didn’t mistreat these things. We use them while walking on a treadmill and there’s never any stress put on the cable. Through typical use of the volume control it has proven that it wasn’t well-made. Listen, when you have to twist and squeeze the volume control several different ways just to get sound to come back on in both ears = FAIL.
Amaizing for the Money
I bought these specifically for extended wear while working on my computers. They are very comfortable and the sound quality is excellent for under $20.
I do get better quality sound from my Skull Candy ear buds but they were twice as much, don’t have in-line volume control, have a shorter cord and are not the best for extended wear but are much better for travel.
Unbelievably great sound
I think it’s important for me to state where I’m coming from before I start the review. While I’m no master musician, I’ve been playing musical instruments since I was eight years old. I have always had a critical ear for a balanced sound in my music. I don’t consider myself an audiophile, but at the same time I can’t settle for second-rate sound quality. I’m kind of a casual critic, I guess you’d say. If you’re a hardcore audiophile, maybe my opinion won’t mean much to you.
Anyway.
When I was reading the other reviews for these headphones, I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptical. Some of the other earphones/headphones on Amazon got great reviews when I found them to be unsatisfactory, so I was a bit wary about these as well. But my usual pair of earphones broke and I was hurting for money, so I needed something cheap to replace them. I usually go for the active-wear hook-type earphones because earbuds hurt my ears and headphones are too conspicuous, but since these Koss headphones got great reviews (for what they’re worth) and were very cheap, I decided why not and decided to try these out.
I’ll say that I’m really glad I made that decision. Sure, these headphones are conspicuous and frankly, a bit dorky-looking, but the sound quality is very much worth it. The bass is strong, but never overpowering (which was my main concern), and the sound is crisp on every level. It’s a perfect balance of sound, in my opinion. I can hear every instrument loud and clear with these things — even instruments I never knew were there. I’ll tell you, I was falling in love with the older songs on my playlists all over again because I was hearing new things with every playthrough. These headphones seriously let you appreciate the music in ways you can’t unless you invest in headphones that are at least double the price. I’ll wear these things even when it’s completely quiet and indoors because my laptop speakers are inferior.
I will note that these headphones are not soundproof. If you turn the music up too much, other people will be able to hear what you’re listening to. Likewise, you’ll be able to hear your surroundings provided you don’t turn the volume up too high. Personally, I like it that way because I like to listen to music as I walk/bike and think it’s a good idea to be able to hear traffic at the same time, so this is perfect.
Another nice touch is the volume adjuster (or whatever it’s called) partway down the wire. If your mp3 player is in your pocket/purse/backpack, it’s very handy.
I’ve seen a few reviews saying that these headphones are made only people with tiny heads. I’m not sure how big these people’s heads are, but I’m a 5′4″ Asian girl and they fit on my head at the smallest adjustment. Heh? The cord is pretty lengthy too. I have to rubber band a portion of it to keep it from slopping all out of my pocket, but that’s really no problem.
And that’s all I can think to comment on. If you have any doubts about getting these: don’t. I promise you, you will be satisfied at the very least, but more than likely you will be blown away.
Cheap Plastic, Noise in one ear, the jack failed, all in less than 3 months!
This is my first amazon review and I’m compelled to warn people like me not to buy these headphones. I was quite impressed with the sound initially but in less than 2 months, the left ear started to produce conspicuous distortion at low frequencies. Then, there was the jack itself. The jack is not a sturdy L jack as shown in the picture but it is straight. The jack failed a few days back and I have to keep adjusting them every time I move even a little. As for comfort, my ears are still hurting! But maybe it’s just for me and not for everybody.
good sound, not so good ergonomics… overall, quite a value
This phone has great sound for the price… sometimes.
At first, it was hard to tell how to rate the sound in this, because it seems to vary depending on what I plug it into. When I listen to MP3s from my computer, this thing seems muddy and bass-heavy, and I prefer using my old Sony Walkman phones (MDR-027), cheap though they are. On the other hand, when I listen to MP3s from my phone (a Moto W233 Renew), the new Koss phones sound perfectly fine, and the old Sony sounds hopelessly tinny — much like the earbuds that the phone came with. It’s as if the two sources are playing the same music with drastically different EQ… but it’s not only that, because it sounds like there’s distortion changes too. I don’t understand it. Something to do with impedance, maybe.
After a little fiddling with the computer, the problem doesn’t seem as bad — I’m not hearing the distortion that was appearing before, and it’s not as muddy, though it’s still bass heavy, and less clear than the same track played from my phone. Whatever the problem is, I’d guess it’s probably not the headphones’ fault.
So anyway, in at least one context, the Koss really sounds very good, and transforms my phone as a music player from a joke into something very usable. And it does quite well at producing strong volume from a battery-powered source. And price-wise, it’s quite a value for that level of sound quality.
(Note: if your phone, like mine, uses a 2.5mm jack, you’ll need an adapter. Maybe one with a microphone in it, in case a call comes in. I have one such from Sanyo, which is very cheap and flimsy… hopefully something better is available.)
Where this headphone is lacking is in its comfort level and construction quality. It pinches your head too hard (but it seems to be possible to deform the plastic to be looser), and the ear pads are smallish and easily moved off-center (which affects the tonal balance). Those can be worked around, but there’s one problem I don’t know what I can do about: the hinges attaching the earpieces to the headband are loose and not smooth, and they MAKE CREAKING NOISES whenever you shift your head or move your jaw! Once you start noticing it, it gets quite annoying. Maybe I can, like, pack the little hinge sockets with wax paper or something. But mainly, if I want to listen to music with these, I just do so while lying very still.
Excellent headphones
These are excellent headphones. The sound quality is tremendous, especially considering the reasonable price. I highly recommend this product.
Good sound – good value
I bought 2 pairs of earphones – one for use with an Ipod touch and another for a pocket radio. Both work well with good sound quality for music on the Ipod and radio. We had an old set of earphones that we used on the radio and the sound quality really improved with the Koss earphones, even with talk radio. The fit is a little tight on the head and needed a little adjustment for maximum comfort, but the earphones seem to be a great value for a low price.
