Amazing speakers!!
These are BY FAR the best headphones I have ever worn. Monster did it right by calling them “speakers” and not headphones. The clarity is outstanding, the bass is thumping, the volume level is high. The packaging is fantastic. These bad boys will NOT damage during shipment unless a semi drove over theme.
This is my first time writing a review for a product, but I had to share my experience with these phones. For the price you feel like you just bout a $2,000 sound system.
Buy them now!
FAKE Monster from Amazon.com!!!
I got a fake Monster Turbine from Amazon!! I thought Amazon is an authorized dealer for Monster, but I got a fake Monster Turbine from Amazon when I bought it with the price has fell down to $106.00.
Before I made this purchase, I did a lot of research online and in store, I knew there are fakes at lots ebay stores with 3 times cheaper price so I decided to buy it from Amazon. After I received Turbine the same day, I felt something is wrong, the paper box case is unsealed and poor quality inside, the leather case has no metal “monster” logo on it. And then I looked carefully onto the earbuds, the fonts-”monster Turbine”, which engraved on the both side of the ear buds have different style and size, how fake is that?!?! Regardless about the sound quality, it’s just not worth $100. And looks like Amazon is the only seller out there is have this low price tag, everyone else are selling at $149.
So just to double confirm, I called Monster Cable directly, I guess the easiest way is to ask the CS if they make any of those Turbine leather cases without the metal “monster” logo on it, and they said never, and they tell me to return it back to Amazon, because Amazon might not getting the stock from Monster cable directly even they are “Authorized Dealer”.
I think this is not just a return and refund thing now, I don’t know how people rating all 5-stars here but I found out they are selling fakes, or it’s just I got “lucky”.
I think I just don’t have the time and capital to sue Amazon, yea…..funny right?
Pretty Nice
I bought these because alhtough I love my UE Superfi.5.pro’s they are just so difficult to get a good fit and keep in my ear. After reading all the reviews I thought I would give them a try. When I first put them in I did notice that getting a nice tight fit was pretty easy. Next starting listening to some music. Noticed right away the base trails off if the song you are listening has any base presence
Next threw back in my UE’s. Oh boy. back to back these things can’t hold a candle to the superfi.5.pro’s. Base is much more full, overall sound is much more warm, its like night and day.
Now the UE’s did cost 2X as much so I would expect them to be better but wow. Bottom line these are good phones for what they cost but they aren’t all they are hyped up to be…
Just got these
ive only have one other type of headphones.. i pod ones so this is a great upgrade from them and they’re very comfortable and great sound i highly suggest them and i got them at a great price
Great overall sound with clear and punchy bass!
Before I tried the Monster Turbine, I owned the Shure SE310’s. Clearly the Shure are very high fidelity earbuds, and outdo the turbine in mids, as expected. However, the SE310’s never had the punch in the bass that I would like (especially listening to electronic music). This is were the Monster Turbine’s excel. Great, clear and punchy bass, while maintaining good fidelity in high and mids. For someone who listens to classical exclusively, this may not be what they want. I love it.
Construction seems solid, but have only owned them for a month now. No problems with “chord noise” (rubbing the cables against clothing).
The only thing I would like to see included are squishy foam ear plugs (they include 3 sizes of two rubber types – however, I prefer the foam ones).
Ideal headphones for traveling or just listening
Since I travel a great deal and Im also looking for ideal head phone set, this Monster product ear phones have worked out well for me. It does isolates the sound from the outside (similar to the air flight traveling noise reducer ear phone set), which enables me to listen very clearly to the sound, without distraction. Great for editing film on computer. The service from the seller was very fast. Great service overall.
High Performance for a Fair Price
First and foremost, I write this review so that future audiophiles can get a glimpse at what I consider to be a high quality product at a fair price. I know that there were a handful of “testers” that were given the Monster High Performance In-Ear Speakers throughout the past year so that they can professionally review the product. I was not part of that group, so I may not have the most precise and expertly termed review as others may have. This is simply my opinion.
My search for the highest quality of music began with an upgrade necessary from my 8GB Ipod Nano. After filling out this Ipod, I thought it was deservingly necessary to upgrade to a larger MP3 player in terms of the size of the capacity. After careful research, I decided on the Sony X Series MP3 player. Although the price of this player was high comparably speaking ([...] for a 16 GB), the price was justified considering the quality of the sound is supposedly unparalleled in comparison to other MP3 players. I won’t go too much further in-depth in regards to the Sony X Series because this isn’t the proper forum; only know that that is my choice of the device that will be playing my music, and that will significantly factor into the quality of the sound emitted through the headphones.
I received my Monster High Performance In-Ear Speakers yesterday afternoon. Immediately, I noticed that the quality of the boxing was very impressive and quickly created the idea in my head that this is a premium product. Upon opening, a little message on a plain white piece of paper reads: “For the Love of Music.” This is precisely why I shelled out the [...] for this headphones.
Open opening the box, the headphones were gorgeously displayed along with a small leather pouch with a magnetic opening and closing to it.
The headphones themselves seem to be made of superior metal casing with a swirling edge around the back part of each bud. Each bud is also highlighted with a color as well as L and R, with Blue being L and Red being R. The weight of each bud was also significantly noticeable, which hinted to me that they are loaded with superior technology. Think of the actual shape and texture of both buds as similar to that of a bullet in metal casting. Smooth and impressive in form.
The wiring, as I’ve read in previous reviews, is surprisingly thin and of quality on par with cheaper headphones. This has caused problems in the past with other customers, as the wiring will sheer over time evidently if one is not careful. I will be careful to handle the wires with utmost care in concern of this problem. However, I also read that Customer Service was extremely good in replacing these headphones if this problem should occur, so I would suggest holding onto the box and receipt just to be extra cautious.
Since my Sony X Series MP3 Player had yet to come in, I decided to first try the earphones out on my soon to be replaced 8GB Ipod Nano. I specifically chose a wide variety of songs ranging over several different genres in order to test the quality of the buds right out of the box. What I heard was impressive to the extent that the headphones were certainly of better quality than the Sony Headphones ([...]) that I purchased and upgraded from. In terms of how I would describe the sound, I would say that each instrument is individually layered with the guitar having its own layer, the vocals having its own layer, and the drums, bass etc having their own individual layers as well. Thus, I was able to notice sounds that I would have never noticed with my previous pair of headphones. For example, listening to Chevelle – Fell Into Your Shoes, I never noticed the subtle ticking of a clock in the beginning of the song. Listening to JayZ – Empire State of Mind, I never noticed individual electronic bongo’s playing on either side of the buds upon different verses of the song. This is the true quality of these headphones – to discern between notes that one would have never noticed previously.
PLEASE NOTE this very important detail! After reading several customer reviews, I noticed that several seasoned audiophiles all agree that earphones of higher quality must go through a stage call “burning in” the headphones in order to settle and expand the drivers for each bud. What this essentially means is that brand-new high quality headphones are like a plant that has yet to blossom; they are closed and compacted which limits their sound. Thus, it is necessary to “mature” or allow the headphones to blossom so that the full sound stage can be heard. The best website to begin the process of burning in is [...]. This website offers a generator that produces a variety of sounds, in intervals, that are commonly used to burn in the product. For example, the generator’s options are for:
1) Pink Noise (think radio static on an unknown channel at a lower pitch)
2) White Noise (think radio static on an unknown channel at a higher pitch)
3) Frequency Sweep (A sweep of sound from low to high pitch)
Thus, in order to properly burn in the Monster headphones, I simply plugged my headphones into my computer and played White Noise for four hours, stopped for a little while, than played Pink Noise with intervals for 9 hours overnight. I have thus “burned in” my headphones for nearly 13 hours. Based upon reviews and a little research, pink noise seems to be the best method of burning in the headphones, although there is no scientific confirmation of this and it is merely the opinion of several audiophiles.
What I have noticed this morning is a surprisingly big difference in the quality of the headphones. The sound stage has opened up a bit, so to speak; specifically the mids and lows have opened up, which has resulted in a much better bass quality and vocal sound. Speaking of bass: right out of the box, I can tell that these headphones were specifically designed for those of us who enjoy a thumping, airy, high quality sounding bass that isn’t muddy or droning out of the rest of the song. Truly this is the highlight of these headphones, and I’ve been told that after a complete burn in, the entire sound stage will be clearly audible and bright. Considering after only 13 hours of burning in I have noticed an impressive difference, I can only imagine what these sound like when the Sony X Series Mp3 player comes in, and after a moderate amount of burning in has taken place (40-50 hours).
I will keep this review updated upon receiving my new Sony Mp3 Player, and after receiving the proper 40-50 burn in period. But from what I’ve heard so far, I’ve been extremely impressed with the sound quality thus far. For the price that these headphones are being sold for nowadays (retailing at $190 and being sold on Amazon for about [...], you simply can’t go wrong with them. I hope this review has helped your decision out a little bit. Also, for those of you interested, I will be primarily listening to the following bands: Jay Z, Metallica, Alice in Chains, Coldplay, Shinedown, Led Zeppelin, and some Mozart. This will give me a nice range of music to test the headphones out.
EDIT: UPDATE (6/19/2010)
As promised, I plan on updating this review accordingly based upon the progression of my recent purchase. Anyway, I’ve “burned” the headphones in for roughly 40 hours now, give or take an hour or two. My methods of burning include:
1)19 hours of Pink Noise
2) 4 hours of White Noise
3) 4 hours of mixed sound effects.
4) 15 hours of frequency sweeps + My library music.
5) 1.5 hours of my music.
The palette of sound has become much more pronounced as this process has begun. Specifically, layers of different instruments are far more pronounced in either bud. Highs and mid’s are becomming more pronounced as well, although the bass and drums seem to be evidently be taking a little longer time to settle. I’m expecting the lows will be more pronounced as well after 60-70 hours of burning.
I also noticed at about the twenty hour mark a decrease in quality of the buds. I’ve read online that this stage in the burning process is quite normal, albeit slightly frightening. However it appeared to last only a short time, as the sound quality has increased rather steadily since then. Mind you, despite the fact that the quality has decreased it still sounded better than they did straight out of the box. But I knew they would get better after this stage.
I also received my Sony X Series MP3 player (16GB) today. Naturally, I will be using this player as the number one source for all of my music listening, with my computer being the second option. There’s a bunch of really cool digital features that are optional but worthwhile, including the ability to manually adjust about five/six frequency rates, customize the “Clear Bass” up to 4 notches, and several other cool things.
Anyway, after several minutes of tinkering with the new MP3 player, I found the sound I was looking for and was mighty impressed with the overall presentation. There were certain songs that just simply wowed me with this setup. For example, Alice in Chains “Your Decision” and Ozzy “Goodbye to Romance” sounded simply amazing. These buds are remarkable when it comes to spacing out individual guitars, especially those that are cleanly played (without distortion, I.E. acoustic etc).
I have also discovered the extreme bliss that is Pink Floyd with this setup. It is simply incredible how great Pink Floyd sounds with these headphones.
I will continue to update this review.
No comparison
Definitely one of the best earbuds I have bought (though they are the most expensive pair of earbuds I’ve bought) but there is no question that these have by far exceeded my expections. They allow me to hear everything as if I was in a concert, listening to the music. I hear things that I’ve never heard before on the song. The highs are great, the lows boom, and everything in between just sounds awesome. My friend wanted to buy a pair of earbuds and sampled my earbuds with a song he really enjoyed. He just said, “WOW, IT’S LIKE A WHOLE DIFFERENT SONG!” The metal construction is different from the plastic feel, which is a good difference. Would definitely recommend these, worth every penny spent on it.
Um Wow.
I’m a very skeptical person and didn’t know what to expect when I got them. I’m the “over-ear” headphone kinda guy and never use ear buds; but I recently started running to get ready for the Military and wanted my music to accompany me. I had read all the reviews and everybody seemed to rave about them so I took the chance and bought some ear-buds. People said these don’t have a lot of bass, but I feel these outperform my Bose noise cancelling over-ear headphones. I think the real key to these is putting them in right. You could just shove them in your ears but it probably won’t sound right… You need to pull up on your top of your ear, opening or “stretching” the ear canal wide which you then stick the ear-bud in and then let go and your ear will conform around the bud blocking out most external sound. Also make sure you use the cone shaped tips because they actually block the external sound out while the other ones don’t do a thing.
Now besides the amazing sound quality and the amazing bass (sounds like a sub in my head) the only worry I have is that these don’t last because of excess sweat when I run. I couldn’t find any warnings in the included material about avoiding moisture except a warning that says “don’t get them wet”. So I hope they are fine for my runs. Also keep in mind you NEED to “burn-in” these headphones! I burned mine in for only 24 hours and the Bass has already become much deeper and smooth. If you don’t know about “burn-in”, Google it. It’s an accelerated process of what would happen normally over time to your headphones. Just like when you break in the engine of a new car, it’s very “stiff” you could say from the factory and over time and regular use the engine will perform at its full potential…
Oh and Monster, let me test and review a product next time!!
Jury’s Still Out…but is now in
If you own up to $40.00 earphones these will be kinda like night and day. Up the ante to $80.00+ cans and then it becomes subjective. What are your preferences? If you are searching for crystal clear repro in the upper register of the spectrum, then these may not be what you are looking for. Its has a really wide full sound, but did lack that spatial airy feel that really nice, clear highs give the perception of. Keep in mind that I have not fully burned these in (this is an “just out of box” review) and reserve the right to amend this review to reflect it’s positives.
***UPDATE*** After allowing these to burn in for 48 hrs. (should get even better from this point on) the highs and mid-range has opened up. This really brings the sound up to par with the already present great bass response, thus producing an excellent well rounded sound. The bass has really tightened up as well! I thought it was superb out of box so this is even better news. I’ve changed my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars. Buy these and you can quit hunting for earphones!!
Fantastic!
Presentation = 5/5 The box and packaging make it feel like you ordered phones costing 3 times as much! The inclusion of a leather, magnetic button carry pouch is great. You get a fancy, upscale, and most important clean and safe way to transport your buds!
Build Quality = 5/5 Ummm… they feel like bullets. Cold, hard, and fierce. The overkill (in a good way!!) of including many sets of different sized earpieces to ensure a perfect seal is great. The wires at first seemed thin and yet after use, you realize they are strong, durable, and never tangle. A HUGE PLUS!
Sound Quality = 4.5/5 I am certain they will be a 5 once they break in properly, but the bass is tremendous, ranging from thunderous to well balanced depending on positioning of the buds, the source quality, and use of an EQ. The Mids are rich, and blend beautifully up and down to create a blend with the distinct (but not shrill) highs. Just a great listening experience. The -.5 is simply because I refuse to rate it perfect when I know it will improve after 100+ hours of use. I have logged about 40.
Value = SUBJECTIVE. This is up to you, really. I think at $106 and free shipping from Amazon, these are a steal! They sound better than the Sennheiser over ears I have (580s) and the BOSE buds and over ears, too. I compare them to the equally priced Grado over ears I own… and that is a big complement!
OVERALL, this is a great product. If you need buds, want great sound and build quality, and enjoy unpackaging something “special”, then go for it! This is a huge return on investment as compared to dropping $25-$100 on what you would get at retail!!!
Excellent headphones!
I actually got these phones for $114 with shipping and tax. Which was a very good deal, they were sent to me next day while I paid a regular delivery. These phones are really and I mean REALLY beat my expectations! I was kind of skeptical because this was going to be actually my first experience with hi def IESs. I used regular earphones that came with my blackberry bold 9700, and I had no idea how much I was lacking. Monster Turbines are simply awesome. They deliver great bass and actually I can confirm that now I can recognize wider spectrum of sounds in music which I couldn’t hear before. I am a lot into organ and classical music. But I listen to some metal too. While I don’t consider myself an audiophile and can’t really compare these earphones with any other expensive rivals, I can say that this definitely suits my expectations of what a real music experience should be. A little note about fitting them into the ears: I read some reviewers had trouble at first, I can’t say that for myself. From the very first moment I put them in, they fit snugly into my ears and I could immediately recognize the difference in the sound. There are also instructions in the manual on how to put them in. Also, I don’t find them too heavy and I was actually walking with them and they were sitting tight. They seem to have a nice construction and hopefully will last me long. I am very much satisfied with the purchase and can recommend this to anyone who doesn’t wish to pay $300 or even more for expensive headphones.
By the way, I mostly listen my music on the laptop or on my blackberry 9700. As I try to eliminate the need of carrying multiple electronic devices with me. If there is anyone who knows the difference in lets say iphone and blackberry as music devices and mp3 players could give me an advice whether it would be worth buying a dedicated mp3 player for enhancing my music experience, I would appreciate that. Thank you all.
Monster Turbine High-Performance In-Ear Speakers
I’ve had these attached to some custom ear molds, I’ve got really weird shaped ear canals. The speakers are terrific, I have never had such great sounds coming into my head whilst riding my bike.
Great all around headphone
These were my first foray into hifi-esque phones and I love them. Burn in is essential, I’d say after 50 hrs or so the sound quality jumped expnentially. Great for rap and dubstep and equally so for rock and acoustic. They’ve got an in your face soundstage that puts you in the middle of the music. Add an amp and the sound gets even better. I’m tempted to try the pro coppers but don’t know how much beter they would be for the $. Get em, you’ll love em.
!! B E S T ° B U D S ° E V E R !!
I LOVE them. Tried various others, but after hearing to the Turbines, I will stop searching.
Hearing style is more to bass on my side and these Turbines deliver bass without dumping midth and heights while the bass is pumpin’. Chrystal clear sound over the whole band. And a bass that goes down to the deepest.
If there is anything to complain about, then maybe the weight. But I just had them in during a 12 hour day in planes and it wasn’t uncomfortable at any time.
Great sound, great quality, great design. Best value for price.
Really love them!
No Low End Below 32 Hz
Just Listen two Roger Waters Amused To Death (THRE WISHES)The Low End is missing
1. They play very loud the sound is very clean
2 The midrange and High End is very clean even at very loud levels without distortion
Good, but get on sale. Update May be damaged 2 months
I ordered 2 pairs, one pair was defective, but played sound. That brings in to question some reviews. The bad pair just didn’t sound very good, so I tried the second pair and thankfully they sounded much better. To pay full MSRP would be too much for me. With a good sale these are a good option for those out there that like the feel of sound pressure waves that these create. I personally love it. I used to compete in SPL car audio competitions with a pair of 15″ subs w/ 1000 watts to each, and that feeling of the air pressure on your ears is like no other. Monster doesn’t rate these for db or frequency response which really doesn’t make sense because they go plenty low and high, and play plenty loud. I don’t have much experience with earbud style headphones, but I am happy with these. For techno/electronica junkies these would be a great choice. Daft Punk sounds great! The sound they produce is sharp and precise, and for some that may be harsh for long listening. In contrast though, they do sound good at low volume levels too, and the do block out ambient noise pretty well. All in all a good set if you get on sale, and want tight punchy bass that’ll make your eardrums twitch. As for reviews saying they aren’t any better than the earbuds that came with their mp3 player they are crazy, or they are using bit rates far to low to appreciate music. I recommend 256kbs or better.
Update: I believe one of my earbuds may already have damage! I’m getting a somewhat metallic echo from my right earbud, and I’m sure being I bought mine Used-Like New Monster probably won’t exchange. Too bad really, they sound quite good! If they don’t last though they aren’t worth it! That’s what I get for trying to save some money I guess…
Love the Ear Phones but maybe the customer service even more
I bought these ear phones in July of 2009. The worked amazingly well till yesterday almost a year later. I started hearing sound only from one side of the ear piece and if i wiggled the wire then i could hear it in both pieces. I have been pretty rough with them so thats probably why. But what amazed me was when I called Monster and told them about my problem. They asked me where I bought it from. I bought it from some random website that wasn’t an authorized dealer yet they still offered to exchange them without me even asking. They just asked for my name and address. I told them I had thrown the box away. They told me it was not a problem. This is why I decided to finally write a review about the ear phones. I have used them for almost a year now and I love them. They do a great job canceling out outside noise and the sound amazing!! The wire feels great and is very easy to untangle. I doubt it will even tangle for people who are careful with there ear phones but i kind of just throw it around. But as I said this is a great buy!! Great ear phones and just as amazing customer service to match it!!
great headphones
these sound great, tryed a lot of different kinds, but could never hear them on my zero turn mower, execpt the big headphones.dont like them when its hot outside.these earbus are the best.
WOW!!!
Wow just purchased these and they are great. The best thing about them is the balance between the highs and lows its perfect in my opinion.I use them with my creative zen xfi2.One of the best players for sound quality in my opinion. Thanks Monster I know have my perfect combination for my music listening.
