A solid budget alternative.
I have a 64gig Ipod Touch, and most of my listening is done on the go, sometimes under high noise conditions, and often spoken-word material such as audiobooks and podcasts. This basically means that sound fidelity is not my biggest concern. But features like canal earbuds (to dampen the outside noise), a tap line control and microphone (for no-look track and volume selection) are what I require most. The fact is, most earphones don’t usually offer those options for under $50. These Scoche aren’t the best-sounding buds I’ve used by a longshot, but they brought everything I needed together for just $21. Outfit them with memory foam cushions from a third party, and they become super cozy and cut down the ambient noise, too!
If you’re an audiophile, you should be used to spending more money than this anyway.
Didn’t receive Pouch
These earphone are awesome. But, I didn’t receive the leather pouch that was also advertised with these awesome earbuds. Please send to me! I ordered 2!
Best $20 headphones
The GOOD: Strong base, decent mid and highs. Aesthetically, they look like a good match with my HTC Aria. LOUD by default. So no need to worry about volume limit.
The BAD: The mic doesn’t work for my HTC Aria. Only the remote, which can only pause and play a song on it. But the product never said it could work with HTC. Ok fine. But it does say it works with iPods (120gb & 160gb). Which I have the latter. Guess what? The remote doesn’t work at all for the iPod. So I really don’t know where they’re going with these features.
Conclusion? Basically I just bought $20 headphones with a pause/play remote and a mic that doesn’t work.
Good headphones but not great
First of all it didn’t come with a leather pouch as it says in the product description. Secondly, the tapline controls didn’t work one day but have ever since!?
Other than those issues I have found the headphones to hold up to regular abuse of me biking and working with the headphones on almost every day. Also the mic picks up all my recordings flawlessly. After the one day that the tapline did not work I’ve had no other issues so far. Hope this helps. Good Luck
Liked it
Nice product. Great for the money. Cheaper than the one at Target and easier to use.
Disappointing for a couple reasons. This includs getting much cheaper earphones than the ones described!
The Amazon listing for this item says, “What’s in the Box IDR655m Earphones,…” It also mentions that model several other times, clearly indicating that’s what you’ll be getting. In other words, the descriptions says you’ll be getting this: Scosche Increased Dynamic Range Noise-Isolation Earphones with tapLINE II Remote and Mic. The IDR655m earphones (what you’ll expect if you believe the product description, are a great value at the listed price. Unfortunately, if you read the “fine print” it says. “Item model number: HP155M”. The HP155M earphones are what Amazon sends you and are inferior to what is promised. (You also don’t get the travel pouch and half the of inserts listed.)
The fit, for me was pretty bad. The silicon inserts were all quite slick and tended to slip out. I solved the fit problem by using my preferred inserts, the Etymotic Research ER6i-18 Replacement Triple Flanged Eartips for Etymotic Earphones (Gray, 5 Pairs).
The sound is OK. Some base and not too tinny. All-in-all not as good as the standard earbuds that come with an iPhone. The microphone quality was intelligible but nothing great. The buttons all worked but were a bit difficult to press. The cord was long enough for me to keep my player in my pants pocket and not have it tug.
Bottom line is these headphones are certainly serviceable but definitely not an upgrade in quality. If you are looking for amazing or even really good earphones at a bargain price then keep looking. Finally, if your are looking to get what is described by this listing you *will* be disappointed.
Great sound, low price, good value.
Got these for my wife. Of course, I tried them on first. Very good sound. Bass could be a bit deeper, but that is just my preference. Noise isolation was very good, I could hear the songs and the calls very clearly even on noisy environments. The controls work just as the original iPhone earbuds. My wife also tried them on and she loved them as well. The cord clip comes in very handy to prevent the earbuds from falling incase of sudden moves. Very nice product. Hope they last long, original Apple earbuds lasted less than a year under very light use.
Doesnt come with case
Just to let everyone know it doesnt come with the carrying case. I saw this a little cheaper at another site but it didnt say it had I leather carrying case so I bought it here. After recieving it to my supprize no case. All my headphone I have had before brought do to carrying them in my pocket with no case so the case was important to me. I contacted amazon they emailed me a shipping labet and this item was returned.I did not use it so I cant give a review of the sound quality but I had to give it some stars.
Does Not Come with Carrying Case
I bought this on a lightening deal. It arrived today and have not yet hooked them up so I cannot comment on sound quality. However, they did not come with the carrying case, which I really wanted. FYI if the case is important to your purchasing decision.
Quality for the price range
I haven’t yet done longevity studies with this headset, but so far the audio quality is to my liking. I was using apple’s in-ear headphones for many years, but they kept breaking, very glad I made the switch.
Pretty good for the price
Sound and mike are fine. I’m hard on earbuds, do I’ve had to relearn how to solder tiny tiny wires and get out the superglue to put the buds back together more than once, but these are fine earphones.
Does not work with 3G iPhone (but sounds great!)
Major disappointment:
Volume controls do not work on 3G and 3G iphones.
(It only works on 3GS and 4G iphones)
IF you iPhone does not record video (3GS + 4G feature) than the volume controls on this headphone will not work either.
Compliments:
These headphones sound much better than the more expensive alternative by Scosche in the sound checks I did.
Scosche Increased Dynamic Range Noise-Isolation Earphones with tapLINE II Remote and Mic
Save yourself some money and buy the less expensive version you are currently looking at.
Great earbud
I had a pair of expensive, Shure e2c earbuds, and I never liked them. These, I love. They’re comfortable, the sound is great, and they noise cancel well, as people have been able to sneak up on me when I have them in.
Great product, but description incorrect
Just received these earbuds – note that the Product Details are correct, the model number is the HP155m, but the Product Description is for a more expensive model. Does not come with the carrying case either, but does have the three different sizes and removable clip as described. I normally hate earbuds because they are always too large for my ears, and expected to use the smallest size as I have with previous multi-size earbuds – however, the smallest were actually too small, they look like a kids’ size, and the medium ended up fitting me perfectly. But for those of you looking for really small buds, these are a good choice! Also be aware that the controller on the cord for volume/track/etc only work with the newer iPod models – iPod nano 4th/5th gen, iPod shuffle 3rd gen, iPod Touch 2nd gen, iPod Classic (2009), and iPhone 3GS and 4. I plugged it into my older nano and sound quality was great, but still had to work the controls on the iPod itself.
Despite the misleading description and lack of information, these are a good product for the price. Bought them for my new iPhone 4 as I wanted earbuds with a mic that were comfortable to wear, and these were the most inexpensive I could find with decent reviews. Not disappointed at all – sound quality is great (I am no audiophile though), and they are the most comfortable earbuds I have worn. Good noise cancellation when you get the right size (try a few to be sure), and they stay in place even when really active (using the clip). The mic and Voice Control features work well, and the middle button is very versatile and can be used for both answering/switching calls and controlling music. I have tested it with Pandora and Slacker radio as well as iPod function, and the track skipping works in all three. Earphone jack is slender and fits snugly even when phone in case (I have a hard-shell iFrogz). Recommended!
Sound Awful
I bought these to work with my iPhone 3GS. I wanted a set of headphones that sounded as good as my plain Sony ear buds but worked with the phone function. These are not those headphones. They sound no better than those awful white ones that Apple supplies with the phone. The sound is shallow, tinny, with minimal bass. The cable has a cheap covering that has no elasticity and obviously will not last long. I’m very disappointed in this purchase. The only good thing I can say is the buds fit better than the Apple ones.
Absolutely terrible bass and dynamic range
Despite being canalphones, these headphones have terrible, nonexistent low end response. Do not pick these up if you are an audiophile or listen to anything but classical/spoken word.
On a better note, the mic is good and works quite well with both iPhone cellular calls and with the Skype app for iPhone/iPod touch. The inline control is good with nice button feel and a simple control scheme.
If not for the awful sound quality I’d give these a 4/5.
not perfect for an older blackberry
i took a chance hoping it would work with my 8830 blackberry. it does and the audio and microphone work great. on the 4.5 BB operating software the taplink controls do not work at all. i hope when my phone is upgraded to the 4.6 OS that the control may work.
Product description doesn’t match item!
The “product details” section of this ad describes the Scosche IDR655M earbuds, they sound great don’t they? What the seller is actually selling is the Scosche HP155M earbuds! They are okay, probably better than the ones that came with the iPod, but I expected the earbuds described in the “product details”. I’m keeping the HP155M’s because as I said, they’re better than the iPod earbuds, and they’ll make a good spare pair. I’ll watch Amazon (and this seller) more carefully from now on. Isn’t there some sort of law about describing one item and selling another!? I bought the IDR655M’s locally and they are great, as a matter of fact they match the “product details” on this ad perfectly! Yea, I know it lists the HP155M’s in the “product description” but come on Amazon, that’s just the old “bait and switch”.
Great purchase!!
I highly recommend these ear phones. They block out other noises so well that I can wear these while mowing the lawn, and I don’t have to have the sound up. It really is amazing! You won’t go wrong purchasing these..plus the mic and volume buttons are fantastic!
So good I could care less about the one drawback.
So far I’ve had an excellent experience. Still working after a few months is good in my book as I’ve bought things that just didn’t work one day, such as my old ipod classic…. Recording myself sing has gone pretty well, it picks up my voice better than the mic enabled earbuds I got with my ipod touch to begin with so A+ on that test. I didn’t get a neat little pouch but who cares? It’s for people with any ear-size (and mine are small so a lot of earbuds are uncomfortable and it’s just not stylish in my opinion to wear anything bulky on your head like headphones). When I set my mind on buying something I obsess and look for the best. Buy these ones!!! And the price is right I think. [...] was selling these at such a high price I went over them the first time I saw them. We’re all on a budget and want cool things…. *sigh*.
