Poor sound quality
Bought these today as an upgrade for my iPod but they will be going back tomorrow. Comfortable fit but the bass is not existent (even with the boost turn up) which results in the music sounding tinny and thin. Disappointing as I have been very happy with other Sennheiser products.
Great sound and isolation for the price
Before buying these, I read the reviews for this product, the slightly more expensive CX300s and a few from other manufacturers. I noticed a wide variation in user experiences. I ended up selecting these as a compromise on price, and after trying them, I think I have a theory on why the opinions are so different. What you end up hearing depends very highly on how the things fit in your ears.
As I opened the package I was listening to a song through my cheap came-with-the-player earbuds, which were what you’d expect: okay but not great. With the song playing I swapped one earbud, swapped the plug, and then swapped the other ear. At first, I was hit by this wave of disappointment — the sound from the CX200 seemed *worse* than the cheap earbuds they replaced. Thinking with dread about how I hate sending things back, I adjusted them in my ears. After a couple seconds, I noticed I was hearing parts of the music I hadn’t heard before, both bass and treble. I swapped to the old ones and back again, and confirmed that fit is *everything*. Properly fit to my ears, I’m now happy to say they’re the best sounding earphones of any kind that I’ve tried, short of professional full-size over-the-ear headphones. I’ve tried several different types and brands of earbuds, and for certain they beat all of those. I expect that a $50 or $100 pair of buds would likely sound better, but I think these do very well for the price.
Concerning passive noise isolation, these buds do a very good job. There is no active electronic noise cancellation here, and I was specifically avoiding that when purchasing them. The isolation is good enough that I think active cancellation is unnecessary, and in fact I find that the isolation may be excessive in some situations. I can’t hear my car when I’m driving, I hear the sound of my own breathing pretty loudly when music isn’t playing, and when it is I doubt I’d hear my own doorbell ring as I sit here typing this. I feel pretty cut off from my environment with them in my ears. Keep that in mind if you’re thinking about buying these or any ear canal type earbud.
Live up to the name of Sennheiser
I was suspicious about the complains on this review board. What better way than to try it out. I bought this and wahla… the sound quality of a Sennheiser. Nothing more, nothing less. It’d be nice if these guys can come out with speakers like this and beat the hyped up price of a bose.
Best earphones
Man!!!! I got to tell you, these earphones are fantastic. I got them two days ago and thought- nah, they’re going to be ok just like the rest of the $39.99 earphones out there. I put them in and WOW!! the bass is awesome, the mids are clear and so are the highs. I own a pair of Creative which I paid $39.99 for, and a pair of JVC HA-FX 300 $99.99 and these CX-200 can kick their butt all day long boy.
They are very comfortable and they have a very good sound blockage. If you listen to R&B,HIP POP and RAP these are for you, and in this economy why would you want to pay more for something more expensive (Dr Dre Beats) that sounds as just good. Hey, this is just my opinion. oops, my cat is chewing on them.
Alright, I’m back. Anyways. As I was saying, you need to get these if you’re like me who needs to have more that two pairs of earphones ( My wife says why?) buy them, you won’t regret it.
I’m writting this review under my wife’s log in….SHHHH
wash and dried
just found these after looking for a few days. My wife pulled them out of the pocket of my jeans — she was folding laundry. I immediately plugged them in to see if they still worked and I was impressed that sounded the same as before the wash and dry.
Awesome sounds for a good price
Bought this recently and think it deserves a great review. Good sound quality and I’m loving the in ear feature!
