I bought it brand new from Amazon and used it less than 5 times in a 2 week period. In those 2 weeks 1 earbud quit working. I returned it to Amazon with no problems.

After years using asymmetrical Sony earbuds, I can’t wear Y-style symmetrical earbuds any more. They pull out when I move, and the weight of the cord drags them down. Asymmetrical (J-style) cords, where one cord is much longer and wraps around the neck, thus holding the weight of the cable away from the ears, are far, far superior.

I looked for a long time for iPhone-compatible earbuds in this style. I wish Sony would make them, as I like my Sony asymmetrical earbuds a lot and have had about three pairs of them over the last decade. The Sennheisers are not quite as comfortable, and the material is a little strange, but the mic works very well, iPhone voice dialing is supported, and the headphones sound good.

Volume buttons would be a great addition, and the mic housing could be smaller. Otherwise, for a reasonable price, this is the best asymmetrical earbud option I’ve found.

The good news is that the little rubber piece at the end of the earbud is so soft and collapsible that once you manage to actually get it in the ear canal, it doesn’t hurt a bit, even with my sensitive ears. However, I was surprised to find myself uncomfortable in other ways. When I get these earbuds placed in my ear, they create such a seal that it muffles my own voice. I can’t tell how loud that I am talking, unless I take one of them and tug it enough to release the seal. Unfortunately, once I do that, I also lose some of the noise canceling effects, and it becomes loose and easily falls out. It also feels a little weird to experience that seal, like I have to pop my ears. So, these would be great for listening to music but I don’t like them very much for talking on the phone.

After less than 2 months of use, the cable frayed just like the picture someone uploaded (with note). The sound output become unstable because of the exposed wire. I ended up disposing it and buy another earbud instead.

Really cheap feeling construction. Any movement of the wires creates lots of noise and I’ve had many complaints about the sound quality when trying to use it as a microphone.

Also no volume controls for the iPhone.

I’m still trying to find an inexpensive decent quality iPhone headphone/mic setup but I fear it doesn’t exist.

I was very disappointed in the audible range put out by these earbuds. I have returned them for refund.

There is almost NO bass to lower-midrange sound produced by these earphones. Playing with the EQ setting did not remedy this. (In order for EQ adjustments to work, the range has to be pretty good to begin with.) Please note: I am not some hip-hop-head looking for an extreme amount of bass. I just want a decent, full-range sound. These earphones did NOT provide full, well-rounded sound.

I wonder if there was actually a bad batch produced by Sennheiser, and that bad batch is now being peddled by various retailers for a low price. Because, there are some good reviews. Regardless of whether there was a bad batch, or all of the mm50s sound this way, shame on Sennheiser for keeping their name on a bad product, even for a low price.

I have replaced the Sennheisers with the Scosche IDR655M’s, and was blown away by the sound, in comparison.

I ordered these expecting traditional Sennheiser quality and found myself stuck with the worst sounding headset I’ve ever experienced. The sound is absolutely horrible…no bass to speak of and painfully sharp highs plus poor-fitting buds. I can only surmise that the ones I got are fakes. I can’t think of any other explanation.

    Like they say, buyer beware.

Bought Sennheiser earbuds and sent them back. I didn’t like the feel in my ears even though they had multiple ear rubbers and when you had them in both ears, your voice sounds very muffled on through the earbuds. Music sound was ok and tone quality was good. Main thing I didn’t like was earbud wires are different lengths with the mic fob in the shortest line. The mic fob is fairly big and heavy and tends to pull the shorter earbud out of your ear. build quality seemed ok.

I’ve had two of these and in both cases, in less than a year, the covering on the wires has worn thin and the copper wires show. These are pretty expensive to have to replace annually. I wrote it off the first time, but the second pair had the same problem (in shorter time).

I’ve switched to the Klipswitch http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00264GYMG/ref=oss_product for listening, but the Scosche http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002E9HB3O/ref=oss_product are better for me for talking on the phone (see reviews at respective pages).

The Scosche are the closest to these in general construction.

I’m a Sennheiser fan. My cx300 changed my life. I used to have a Sony std and thought they were awesome. But Sennheiser cx300-ii were beyond my expectations. Sadly, I thought the same quality will apply to mm50. Big mistake. I less than a week the cable-jack union went to hell, now it’s joined with duct tape. I can’t use the button: one touch and stay pressed…..they are so cheap looking I can’t use’em in the subway: they look like a 5 usd Chinese earphones…..why Sennheiser? Money it’s not an issue, quality and sound is.

    Please don’t buy it!

I listen to all types of music, but especially, hip-hop. I was going to get the Dr. Dre BEATS, but I heard about some issues. I wanted something with an iPhone microphone, basically a better version of what comes with the phone so that I can listen to music and still take my calls.

These are by far the best headphones for the price. Only thing I wish it had was volume control next to the multi-function button.

These earbuds sound awful. I’ve tried multiple settings in my iphone/ipod to improve the quality, but to no avail. There is no bass what so ever. The music is tinny and not good at all. Now less than a month after buying the set, the volume cuts in and out as I walk while listening. Can’t believe these are Sennheiser’s. Very bad product. The mic seems to work well and the 3 sizes of ear buds are nice, but the sound quality is horrible. I would return these if I had the packaging, but threw it all away thinking that they would be a great product. If you like good sound from your music, don’t buy these.

I’m hard on my headphones, so when the wire wore down after a year of near daily use, I sent them in to get repaired/replaced and they were replaced for free (minus postage to manufacturer, which cost about [$...] bucks). I got my replacement headphones within two weeks–much faster than I had anticipated. I also received email updates letting me know when they received my broken headphones and when they shipped my replacements. The sound quality is excellent and the microphone worked flawlessly with my iPhone 3G.

    The good:

-The comfort and fit of the earphones was very good

    The adequate:

-The bass was pretty poor. I realize they are small headphones, but they sounded tinny when I compared them to the Apple headphones. I was hoping for better bass, since Sennheiser is a respected name in Audio

-The microphone did an acceptable job of picking up sound

    The bad:

-One of the headphones died after ~25 days. The cause is that the wire came loose at the base. There is no strain relief, so the wire gets bent back and forth a lot. I’m not particularly rough with the headphones, but I do keep my phone in my pocket. I guess the jostling was enough bend and then break the wire.

I’m in the processing of returning the headphones. I do not plan on ordering another pair.

I used these with my iPhone and now with my Droid2. I love these headphones. The noise cancellation is pretty decent for being in-ear, the quality of music playback is also very impressive. The microphone and call quality are very nice as well. I’ve had these for a hear and a half roughly and just recently there’s been some fraying near where the cord meets the audio jack part. Still not bad considering I’m fairly rough on these headphones. I’m online to buy another pair and thought I’d leave a review.

I hate these earbuds. They are uncomfortable and fall out of my ear, and I’ve tried all of the fittings. I don’t like it that the cord for the left ear is shorter than the right. I use my iphone to listen to music while walking and jogging. The movement causes the earbuds to have a popping sound. My el cheapos work better, but unfortunately they don’t have a microphone. Wish I hadn’t lost my stock iPhone earbuds, they were much better.

When I got this headphones I was very excited. I used to have Creative in-ear headphones and I were really comfortable with them and astonished about the noise cancellation.

I bought this MM50 because they have an iPhone compatible mic, but I had a more than a few problem with them:

-First of all, the headphones wires are asymetrical. I have long hair so having a rubber cable behind my head it’s no very pleasant.

-The cable is quite short, so when my iPod is in my pants pocket, the cable is very tense.

-I use the bigger earbuds, but after a couple of weeks they got loose, so it sounds less bassy.

-I tried the mic with iPod Touch Voice notes, and for some reason sometimes sounds a strange noise, like a loud horn.

-The first time I double press the button to change the song on my iPod Touch, my ears almost bled. I don’t know why, but sometimes when I hit the button, the volume reaches it maximun.

Also, I have to press it many times to make it work.

I listen heavy music and this headphones have a really good sound and response to this genre, but with the above comments, I really got afraid to even touch that mic button.

I like the sound quality of these headphones, and the sound isolation is great for when I am on my motorcycle. Also, many isolating headphone make it so you hear dense echoes of yourself when speaking or chewing gum, and this set doesn’t seem to have that problem so bad. I have two small problems with this set. The first is that the cord became decoupled near the jack within two weeks, and I felt like I was being extra careful since it looked like a weak connection. I had to put a rubber band around the jack and the adjoining cord to minimized any further damage. Second, the difference in cord length between left and right ears is ridiculous. I’ve been told your supposed to run the right ear around the back of your neck, but when I do that I can’t comfortably turn my head anymore. So I end up with a super long dangling right ear cord and a super tight left ear cord. Not comfy, but tolerable. Overall, I like the headset and would buy another set with the same specs, but a different cord.

These headphones are a decent buy. Still not getting the stay in ear effect after two drops of perspiration.

Sound quality good on the busy high street and I enjoy the base quality

Great overall earbud. I love the sound isolation style earbuds as they will give a better quality sound than any other style in a portable setting since the essentially block outside noise. These are one of the few options for iPhone owners out there that want higher fidelity or to be able to hear what your friend is saying on the phone while riding the subway or at a party and still be able to use some basic functions that come standard with the packaged factory iPhone earbuds.

A couple minor complaints: The control is on the opposite side (L) when compared to the iPhone factory earbuds (R), which can be a tad annoying if you’re R-handed or used to the R-handed setup. The asymmetrical length of leads to each earbud is also probably annoying for those who either don’t know how to use it (the longer cord goes around BEHIND your neck, NOT in front as is the case with the symmetric design) or simply don’t like it.

    My biggest complaints are…

    1) The button that operates answer/hang up, pause/play/skip, etc. is a single small and awkardly placed button inscribed in one of the sides of the controlling unit as opposed to being simply one complete side of the controlling unit, as Apple’s factory buds are. This is really annoying when simply trying to navigate the music functionality, but is ridiculous when using the phone. It can actually be quite difficult to answer the phone on the fly or in a rush – the mad scramble to try and find the button which is flush and the same color as the rest of the controlling unit.

    2) No volume control function. Lame.

SO the best for this style, but some pretty serious design flaws that can limit functionality and frustrate the user. Despite the deficiencies, I have lost these buds before (and might have recently lost them again) and replaced them again (and again) because they are still a great deal for the price and there isn’t really anything better out there.
