“Wow” is not enough
Have had over 7 headphones in the past 13 years and these are one of the best sets I’ve ever owned…add the $80 price tag to it and its a no brainer!
Love, love, love these….
I love these headphones. I am by no means a musician or a DJ, but I love these things. I constantly put headphones on while I’m on the computer so I don’t have to disbturb anyone in the house. Since I use it everyday, I decided to go w/a pair that would hopefully last. I really love these headphones! The are very comfy, sometimes after hours, I forget I’m wearing them. They cut out a lot of outside noise and in my opinion, produce a wonderful sound. I listen to a variety of music and everything sounds good in them. The base they seem to produce is amazing. I also love the reach of the cord.
I know these might be a little pricey for an average person to buy, but I would highly recommend you pick up a pair. You’ll love them!
Can cause ear fatigue
I bought these headphones because I needed something better than walkman headphones, and I needed something that would block out external sounds. In that sense, these phones are good for monitoring in loud environments, but are not exactly pleasing to listen to. In my opinion the treble is not fun to hear, it’s very unnatural. You can notice how much these phones are coloring the sound, especially for transient signals. Hyped bass and treble, with a blurry midrange. I am comparing these to the AKG K240, which are quite the reverse; excellent, clear midrange with gently subdued bass and treble. This is the way it should be, because the midrange is the most important band; it is where human speech lies. In conclusion, this is a practical pair of headphones, well-built, but with too much sound coloration to be pleasing with hi-fi listening or pro-audio mixing applications.
Mostly disappointed
I bought these after much research. For the most part, the sound quality is pretty good. The foam is a little too thick and the heavy cord is a little annoying. What aggravated me the most about this set was the NOISE. Every time I moved my head each ear produced a ‘clunk’ that drove me nuts. I found myself sitting stiff and trying not to move just to keep the noise down. I sit in the office for most of the day and tend to listen to new age or other softer music and the clunk in my ears almost made me throw these away. The only time I couldn’t hear the moving parts was when I’d play RATM or some other loud band (even then an occasional noise was heard).
Maybe it was a factory defect in my set but what I’ve done is wrapped electric tape tightly around the joints. This seems to have taken care of most of it but still… I paid so much money for these that I can’t bear to throw them out. One more complaint is that they get pretty hot on the ears. My next modification will be to somehow get rid of the big pad and cool my ears down.
The sound and clarity are very good but what a hassle.
Returned Item
The sound was fine. The problem was after less than 1 week if I paid $93.00 for them I do not expect the ear foam piece on the left side to come off from just removing them from my head. Amazon is very cool about returning an item because they are on the way today. Some people may think it is a easy fix but I looked at thinking if this happens in less than one week I am returning them I will use my $25 Sennheiser headphones until I decide my next decision but sorry it will not be a replacement of the same. Thanks Gin for your help.
Love these headphones
These are comfortable, lightweight and sound great! I stuff them in my purse and use them with my iPod.
Great but not perfect
The Sony 7506 is an industry standard used by nearly every sound engineer I know – and I know many. I have been using them for 20 years or so. I loaned mine to a nephew and never got them back (never again Nick) so I recently bought a new pair here on Amazon. I am so happy to have a perfect new set. Price, delivery is second to none.
I love the sound. They are loud and full. No, I would not “mix” on them, but for monitoring off recorders, cameras and consoles they are great. Sound is very objective, and I will say IMHO the response is “hyped”. So what? They are fun to listen to.
They fit well on my particular head.
The portability factor is one reason they are so popular with traveling audio engineers who carry lots of stuff.
If I could have only one pair of headphones this would be it. DO NOT waste your money on crap from Bose. In my profession, Bose is an acronym for Better Order Something Else.
I am deducting points for two reasons:
1) They are fragile. Ear pads degrade in a short time (especially if the users wear hair products) and the folding mechanisms are, like my girlfriend, complex and delicate.
2) The excessive packaging is ridiculous. Come on Sony – get with the times.
New users be warned – if you loose the gold 1/4″ adaptor you will pay dearly for a new one from Sony!
So Good I Bought Two
I was debating Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone vs Sennheiser HD-555 Audiophile Headphones because at the time (November 2009) they were priced within 20-30 dollars of each other. In the end I ended up buying both. I can honestly say I love both for different reasons. I would say the sound quality of the MDR7506 is amazing. While the same is true for the Sennheiser headphones in the treble range, in the bass range a lot of instrument timbre is somewhat lost. Which is not to say that the level of bass output is low, because the bass can get pretty loud, but the ability to tell what instrument is producing a very bass note is kind of lost. The reason I love the Sennheiser headphones is that they are extremely comfortable! After using the sony headphones for more than a few hours my ears start to get kind of sore, however the Sennheiser headphones remain comfortable after 4+ hours of straight listening. As far as durability go, the sennheiser headphones seem like they can take more abuse than the MDR7506 based on the fact that the MDR7506s have more moving parts and exposed wiring. Because of this fact, I actually ended up later buying a second pair of MDR7506’s in case the first break.
rip off
first i’am going to make a statement, and then my review of this product.
in today’s industry of audio equipment the standard has gone so low for the pursuit of the bottom line, (greed) digital audio is not better than analog, and i repeat, digital audio is not better than analog.
a vinyl album (record) with an old tube amplifier sounds better than any digital system , the industry hyped the new technology on how clear it is and charged a little more.and in reality its cheaper to make a cd than an album.
do your own research, humans hear in analog not digital, recording artist will testify to this, unless they are so young they are not aware of the previous technology, and not experienced it.
the sony 7506- headphone, after checking reviews on the internet, utube, and the rest, i thought wow ! must be a good product.
its not, sounds like somebody took some earphones, wrapped them in an ear cup and hyped the product, bass ,treble, and midrange all suck .
80% of the reviews are done by people trying to sale the product.
went to walmart purchased a different set of headphones less than half the price, sound way better, this product is boarder line scam.
1. sound quality = o
2.dilivery time = 5
3. recommend this product= hell no!
when purchasing audio , hear it first before you purchase.
The genuine article!
This is the genuine article. You see it used in all sorts of documentaries and recording studios, and now you can take it home with you. Easily worth 5x the price and will probably last forever.
This is the same hardware as the Sony MDR-V6, which is the slightly cheaper consumer version (non-gold plated plug and shorter warranty), so go for that if this costs too much. I own both and they sound identical.
Excellent sound
While I’m not a serious audiophile, I wanted better speakers headphones than the default that came with the package (a digital piano). There IS a difference. For me, particularly in the low frequencies. It’s also true, as others have noted, that you should set the volume down before listening because it doesn’t take much to drive these headphones. Extremely comfortable and no reason to think they won’t last a long time. Overall, very happy and I appreciate the customer reviews that led me to buy these.
great value, great sound, great product
For this price you can’t beat ‘em.
Sound quality is excellent…I’m not an audiophile, and my hearing isn’t good enough to pick up subtle differences between sounds quality and other more expensive headsets (was a Bose owner until I left the dang things on a plane)… These do just fine…I use them for playing guitar…listening to music…watching TV occasionally…no complaints. Well made and fold up into a nice compact form factor for travelling. There are lighter phones out there, but these feel good on the head for over an hour, in my experience.
Awesome!
Got this yesterday. I was so excited! Few hours of listening, only thing I can say is if you love music, buys this. The sound it reproduce is very clear. Enjoy your music. get this. I have shure srh240 and shure se210. Those things are history.
If you love being immersed in the media, these are for you!
After reading all the comments about this model,I decided to give these a try. I’ve owned these a few months now,and every time I listen to a DVD or CD through my stereo,I am truly amazed at the depth of sound you become immersed in. Watching a sports event makes you feel you are right there in the action. One note however: As stated by previous reviewers, these headphones must be handled with a little care. They’re not made for rough handling. Other than that, these deliver the same sound as those costing hundreds more.
Reference quality sound
The best on-ear or over the ear headphones you can buy. Look no further. Quit wasting time. Go try them and you will buy them immediately.
These Sony headphones show all aspects of the music very accurately, like the mixing engineer intended. Bass is present and defined but not overpowering. Highs sparkle and voices stand out. Acoustic guitars sound incredible, even listening to Pandora which does not always have the highest quality stream. When listening to an iPod/iPhone, these shine, but to hear excellence, listen to these headphones plugged into a good home receiver with a Blu-Ray, SACD, or CD and you’ll hear your music like you never have before.
A great buy that nobody should pass up. They fold up, come with a bag carry case, and have a 1/4″ adapter. They are very comfortable and I have listened to them for 3 hours straight with only slight fatigue.
Great Sound,Heavy Duty
I didn’t get a chance to hear these before I bought them. I was trusting the reviews on line and I must say I am amazed at how well these sound. I have tested the Dr.Dre phones at Best Buy and others, they didn’t sell this model of Sony there(Big Mistake)! These are way better than the Dr Dre and all the Bose I have heard and at half the price in some cases. Thanks to all on this site for the great and honest reviews.
I love the way these were packaged and like that they came with a storage case to keep them protected against dust and elements and keeps the extra long cord from getting tangled. I know some people didn’t like the long cord, but I like to have the extra freedom to move around and the cord and jacks are high quality. Good for Sony for not cutting corners and keeping these at top quality. Also not made in China!
LOVE THESE HEADPHONES!
I absolutely love these headphones. They have great sound, not too bulky, and darn comfortable. I am currently using these with my Cowon S9 so the sound is even further elevated. Listening with these and my S9 is simply addictive. The only problem is that with my S9 equalizer bass set at max it gets SOME distortion at volumes of +32. But then again I don’t think there are ANY headphones that can handle that kind of sound output by themselves so I don’t hold it against these. OVERALL these are simply the best you can’t go wrong with this purchase. O yea and the packaging is drop-dead sexy!
Pro Sound at Bargain Price!
Tired of earbuds, I asked for some decent headphones for Christmas and was told by spouse to find some and put on my wish list. Have always been happy with Sony products and this is no different. Am an amateur musician with good ears and these make my collection of CD’s (mostly on High Bit MP3 playback) sound amazing. Comfortable to wear, I use them when on my treadmill or elliptical and they stay put. The MP3 puts out plenty of power to make these louder than earbuds but with great clarity. Have several Sennhieser wireless headphones and there is no comparison in sound quality. If they made these wireless and with a mic, appropriate device interface, I could live with these for work, play, general communication. Satellite HDTV audio also sounds great, better than my Sony surround sound system speakers when plugged into that device.
Good starting point
Well built, comfortable and durable.
Good headphone set if you want to start listening music to a superior level,
they will teach you to play with equalization and most probably you will
understand what kind of sound you’re looking for.
Finally, good the price, but if you’re looking for a revolution, buy something else…
Best Headphone ever.
Great Headphones.. they are the first professional ones I got, and it was worth the money..
The only thing you have to keep in mind, is that if you are going to use this headphones outdoor, and by that i mean anyplace that is not your house or office, it can get a little bit bulky ( the cord is 3m) .. so you can only imagine they where made for indoor use.. after all, they are monitor headphones.
But a part of that..they are great.. it makes the acoustic sound so good.
