These Sony headphones are exactly what I wanted for my iPhone 4. The stock apple headphones are fine but these in-the-ear buds isolate sound well and help you tune out background noise (great for the nyc subway). I also must mention that these ear buds are SIGNIFICANTLY better than the competing (and significantly more expensive) Apple in-the-ear buds. I had the Apple ones for a little while and the audio quality was awful–almost no discernible bass–and I returned them.

As for these Sony ear buds, the microphone and remote work great. I usually stick my iPhone in my pocket or in a side pocket in my bag and I hate having to pull out my phone to adjust the volume or change tracks (especially since pulling it out means potentially dropping it which means most likely cracking it). I’m kind of impatient and ADD when it comes to music, so I’m always flipping songs around. Having the ability to pause, skip ahead and skip back without having to dig it out is great. It’s also nice to be able to answer calls with one click or activate voice control by holding the center click on the remote.

The sound quality is great, not the best in the world but good enough for a casual audiophile. Bass and treble are in check.

They are also pretty durable. I’m kind of clumsy and I frequently end up catching the cord on things or snapping them out with an accidental arm swipe. I did have to replace my first pair after a year (I used it with my iPod touch before I got an iPhone [which, by the way, these headphones work with skype on the touch]) when the microphone broke but otherwise the audio and the remote were still working fine. Also, some other Sony headphone used to be made with this really crappy plastic cord that would come apart, these do not seem to have that problem.

I bought it specifically for iPhone 4 and it is working just like original apple ear buds. I think bass and overall sound quality feels lot better just because of noise isolation effect of silicone cusions around the speaker drivers. The functionality is exactly the same as apple earbuds. The inline remote is slightly bigger and overall cord length is more than enough that’s why it gets tangled easily. It came with cord length adjuster but I dont know…. I have never used it. It gets bulkier with cord length adjuster.

I over research everything. I looked at over a dozen different inner ear buds and finally settled on these. The sound quality is good, very light and all te controls work great on my iPhone 4. Controls do not work on my iPod nano 2nd generation. Otherwise no unexpected issues but i have only had them for a month. My main criteria when purchasing was staying under $30 and an in-line volume control, which these have but as mentioned doesn’t work on my old nano.

These headphones are light, sleek and they do what they say they do! 1 click, pause/play, 2 clicks Fast Foward, 3 clicks – Rewind. volume adjustment, voice control all for under $30.

Apple headphones keep falling out, especially when I excercise. These come with 3 different size ear buds and a carring case. I liked them so much I ordered another for my wife.

Sound quality, good (I can hear base), comfort I gave it a 5. My only complaint, it should come with a shirt clip so the cord does not bounce around when I run.

The middle button that pauses/rewinds/advances is so tiny that unless you have small, girlish, slender fingers, you will constantly miss it. (I am 6′2″ (189cm), so you can imagine my fingers are not so small!) Why (with all the room they could have used) they chose to make this button so tiny, is quite beyond me. But it severely reduces functionality and makes it an annoyance to use.

Purchased these to replace my iPod earbuds because the remote on them started going wonky. These work great. A few things to note, because they are “in the canal” buds there is a bit of cord noise when listening at low volumes. Also, the remote is on the opposite ear than the Apple headset, so a little confusing at the start. Would definitely purchase again.

After losing these Sony earbuds (which offer an excellent mix of price, comfort and sound quality) during a business trip, it was off to a famous big box store in hope of finding the same model in stock.

No such luck, of course. But: this product was the one most similar, with the added function of a remote volume control (which sits just below the right ear). Even though the packaging indicated the remote was compatible only through 3rd generation iPods, it worked just fine with my 5th generation iPod nano 8 GB .

Sound quality is excellent, the remote works well and it comes with three different sizes of silicone ear inserts.

If you’re looking for earbuds that provide good insolation and comfort buy these. They don’t fall out your ears when wearing them or if you’re moving around. Outside noises won’t be heard if your using these earbuds at any time. The mic works good as well. The bass is very powerful for such small earbuds!! If you purchase these earbuds you will be glad you picked these!!!

i bought these for use with HTC ERIS for phone calls, but the mic doesn’t work not to mention the volume control won’t work for android as well.

make sure you read if the product can work with iphone too, or only with iphone. this one is iphone only!

i replaced them with iHarmonix set, works great.

UPDATE: Bought these two months ago and the volume control just stopped working. Completely out of nowhere, and I’m not rough with my electronics at all. I just went to adjust the volume mid song, one day, and…nothing. Shame, because otherwise they were working out great.

I’ve owned Sony earbuds for some time, and they have decent longevity for cheapish headphones. Fancier than my last pair of SONY buds, these have a digital volume/pause control that’s compatible with the iPhone and also works for handsfree phone usage. Nice upgrade, I’d say, and for a great price! But if I try to use the headphone in anything but my iPhone (I sometimes listen to stuff on my computer at work)the default volume is VERY low. The volume function doesn’t work with non-iPhone/iPod devices, obviously. But the low default volume makes these headphones basically unusable in anything but my iPhone.

I bought these to replace similar style black in-ear headphones that came with an XM portable device, but are now falling apart. The advantage I was after with the Sony MDREX38iP, was the controller on the cord to work with my iPod. The control can pause, skip to next track, and change volume. I don’t know what it is, but this remote controller seems hit and miss. It works sometimes and sometimes not at all and I can’t figure out what the variable is. Sometimes I press it and it won’t advance to next track. The white ear-buds that came with iPod never have this problem. Sound quality is just okay with these. I expected a little richer sound from seeing some other reviews. I think they are decent for comfort. They do the job for me, which is mostly for when I’m mowing the lawn or walking, situations where the ear-buds don’t stay in place as well as these in-ear style ones do. I found them selling for a few bucks cheaper at a retail store, a couple weeks after I purchased them on Amazon.

For the price.. even if it was the full 40, these would more than definitely be worth it. Sometimes I prefer to use these rather than my audio-technica ath-m50. They have great bass for such small speakers and can get really loud. The speakers aren’t easily blown. These headphones sound really great and I recommend them to anyone.

I got these specifically to use with the Men’s Scottevest Travel Vest. The standard iPhone headset as well as two other sets of earbuds I had already had too short of a cord between the split and the buds themselves making them too short and too tight to allow movement of my head despite there being a good foot or more of cord coiled up in the pocket where the phone lives. These give good range, at least on the XL version of the vest and have the bonus of being black and blending in with the fabric nicely.

I nicked the *’s on the sound quality and isolation just because they are not quite as good as the Shure E2C’s or larger over the ear headphones. This does not mean I feel these are not excellent headphones though. The quality is good and require far less than max volume to attain good isolation from the environment.

The headset feature works nicely, clear sound on both ends of the phone. The in-line remote ends up at a perfect spot right along the lapel once wired into the Travel Vest. Taking advantage of the internal wiring capabilities keep cords well out of the way.

Highly recommended if you’re looking for a set of ear buds compatible with the Men’s Scottevest Travel Vest

(Disclaimer: Yes, I know how geeky the vest is and yes, I love it despite/because of it.)

Searched around and have been really happy with these headphones. The earbuds stay in my ears even when running, or biking – even if i get sweaty. The remote is the full ipod remote – includes volume control and pause, FF, RWD function (note vol. only works with 3GS, nano 4G +) The remote is easier to use than the original apple headphones and the sound quality is a bit better. I would have preferred the older fontopia style earbuds since I really don’t want sound isolation when running/biking but i could not find anything in this category that does not have in-the-ear-canal style fit. I used these on a plane and they were pretty good at isolating noise – however I still use my Bose when on the plane.

I was looking for in-ear replacement earbuds for my ipod touch with full remote control/microphone features. The Apple equivalent is around $70. These were far less expensive and work great. The remote features work as they should, the earbuds are comfortable, they sound good and they include a cord coiler for excess cord length. Overall, a great purchase for the price.

These earphones were not worth the money I paid for them. Because of the way they fit in your ear, ANY movement of the cord at all can be heard by the earphones.

I want earphones that don’t allow the sound of the cord movement to travel into the earphones, disturbing the music.

I had these earphones for a single day before I returned them to the store. They were a waste of money (US$10 more than Apple’s own earphones). I’ll buy Apple’s earphones and spend the extra 10 bucks on some apps or ebooks.

I bought these two days ago and got them because I had tried a pair that my friend had.

They are WELL worth the $30. I have many headphones and these are just as good if not better than some earbuds that are upwards of $70. I also have some noise cancelling Sony’s that are $300+ over the ear headphones and these do almost as good of a job at isolating. They aren’t really sold for their noise cancelling, but they do a great job.

Also, the controller and packaging look a little different from the picture. On the front of the box it says “Made for iPod” and “Works with iPhone” “Headset for iPhone Calls, Remote for iPod Track and Volume Control.” I’m not sure which iPods this works in, but I have an iPhone 3GS just like another reviewer, and the remote and mic work very well with my iPhone 3GS. I’ve got iOS 4 and it works just fine with the new software update.

The headphones are very comfortable and I’ve worn them for hours at a time.

It’s crazy because without the remote, I would have paid $18 then $5 for shipping, but buying these for an extra $8 and free shipping, you get a sweet remote

The Sony ear bud/remote control is ten times more comfortable than what came with my ipod, stays in the ear and creates a total seal. Sound quality and separation is at least as good. Love the added length of the cord. Well worth the price.

This was a pretty decent pair of headphones – I am a big fan of Sony earbuds; I find they fit nicely and comfortably, provide good sound quality, and do a decent job of shutting out outside noise. However, I do use my earbuds frequently, and unfortunately these wore out very quickly. I had read some reviews here that had warned about this, but I hoped for the best. Sadly, it didn’t work out – one ear stopped working after about 4 months, and the warranty is only 90 days. I’ll continue my search for reliable in-ear headphones with a built-in iPhone-compatible volume control with other brands.

I purchased these to replace Apple off-the-shelf earbuds. I didn’t want to spend more than 50.00 bucks as historically I go through earbuds about every 4-6 months (less for apple brand). Sony has always been my favorite brand for durability, fit and sound so I was partly sold on brand.

These were the best value for iphone and use with my shuffle / ipod touch. My only major issue is the fit of the buds. I do not like things sticking into my ear canal with as much pressure as these buds… I’m sure I will get used to it as I have in the past. Same topic on sound quality… At first the sound quality was way hi treble and hardly any base. I switched the size of the buds from small to medium which sealed in my ears better and made the difference. They sound great and the volume works better (higher volume delivered).

Overall a good value for the sound and iphone features.
